I think that'll go a long way towards making Sanford more user friendly. What transmission are you going to use?

I'm going to use the 5R110W that is in the transit bus. It's a 5 speed auto that is rated at 1100 lb-ft of torque. They should also be common as dirt if I need a rebuild in the middle of nowhere.

Chop the back passenger area off the transit bus and make it a car hauler.

That thought crossed my mind as well. That or a door in the back and just drive the Abomination inside.

Trying to consolidate this back into the SanFord thread. Read my last post here and tell me how crazy I am.

Normally I would say steer clear of them if they haven't had the upgrades done, but you can't buy a 6.0L alone for that price.

Once the "issues" are solved, the 6.0L is a nice engine. In fact, its one of the preferred blocks for upgrades. The top row of head bolts needs to be addressed if you're going with more power. They are bosses that are little "ears" in the block valley and they like to crack/break. If you're keeping it stock, I wouldn't worry about it much. Wait until the head gasket blows, then worry about it.

The derating would have helped the longevity in the bus, but may lead to disappointing performance if you are expecting the same HP/TQ level of the engine in the pickup. Purely speculation, but it may be worth a little more research prior to purchasing anything.

It would definitely have the powerstroke. No real appreciable differences anyway; different turbo and tune is the only real change between the two.

I think I am remembering that the van engines were detuned because the Econonlines didn't have nearly as much cooling flow as the F250-up pickup engine bays. (Which are still really, really cramped once you cram the 6.0's paraphernalia in there!)

I'm also thinking that they weren't intercooled either, but I may be getting crossed up with the 7.3s. I've never seen a 6.0 van in person before, just read about 'em. All of the bus owning people we've worked for had 5.4s or V10s.

In the trucks, it was 325 hp and 570 lb-ft of torque.

In the vans, it was 235 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque.

So the vans got the International VT365 power spec, rather than the cranked up Powerstroke spec in the pickups. Should be very possible to get the extra power though.

Should be very easy to get stock powerstroke stuff from the powerstroke forums.
