AFAIK, you have to have a "72" or older car/truck (FYI - there's a lot of 72's that look funny... ) and that's it. They don't even use helmets! I think the tires have to be 200 TW or higher though.

The main reason I go to the Goodguys show in Nashville is for the autocross....I love watching those old cars run hard. I'm thinking about taking my stock 4 door 72 LTD next year....it'll probably lean enough to scrape the door handles....

The black Concord is badass--only because it is just about the last car you'd expect to say that about.

I've seen that car in two venues:

Big Bend Open Road Race 2012 ... Photobucket

and the OPTIMA Faceoff at the HOT ROD Power Tour 2012:

Not so much to look at, but it can move!

This car is the baddest PT Javelin AMX I've ever seen. The build is spectacular!

I don't really know much about it. A guy named Bill Jongbloed makes the fiberglass parts that are on this car. The car is a TVR 2500M that has obviously been modified.

I have the perfect start for a project like this sitting in my driveway, just waiting there for me when my CSX is done.

1979 Trans Am with the WS6 package with rear disc brakes and factory 15x8 wheels. Mine has a Pontiac 400/TH350 in it right now. Even though the 400 was rebuilt recently, it's suffering from a lifter issue that has rendered it dead in the driveway. The goal for now is to gut it, fix the rust (needs floors, a small 1/4 patch, door skins, a new hood, and nose replacement), paint it with something cheap in my garage, and drive it everywhere.

What I want to do eventually is add EFI to the 400, give it a TH200/4R or a manual (the TH200/4R is a direct swap) and update the interior to modern seats and gauges. I would also love to toss on a set of Minilites or the new (but heavy) year One 17x9 Snowflake wheels. Of course, I'll do it on a GRM-friendly budget because I'm constantly broke.

Great looking T/A. I bought a totalled 79 WS6 and put all the good bits from it (4 wheel discs, sway bars, quick ratio steering box, 4 speed, etc) into my 72. Made a huge difference in handling....plus the konis I added. I also just bought side pipes thanks to Rad_Capz posting the pictures of his car lol.

Rad_Capz's car was a big influence on me too. It was the first 2nd gen Firebird or T/A that I saw that was more than just another Smokey and the Bandit clone or rat trap. It looks great and is fast!

Honestly, when I first got this car 10 years ago, I couldn't believe the handling, even with clapped out suspension and bald, mismatched tires. The steering ratio is really tight and it likes to corner, which is completely uncharacteristic of a 3800+lb '70's car.

Oh man! Full tube cage on factory frame, engine set way back, fabricated cab floor/tunnel, circle track suspension goodies, carbureted LS1 type engine, etc. That's pretty cool!

Perhaps I'm just grouchy after Romney schooled Obama last night, but looking at this thread I think: "Here's proof that pigs can dance and be sexy, but mainly they're still pigs." Not that there's anything wrong with that
