We have a simpler version called "Folkrace", usually driven on shortened rallycross tracks. The idea behind that is to make it simple and easy by using a system where all cars are for sale after the event, at a set price (750 dollars now I think). Anyone is allowed to place a bid on any car and "winners" are drawn. Initial thinking was that it would prohibit people to spend too much money and time on a car you're not certain to keep. Soon people realized that if you place enough bids on your own car (or have family and friends doing so) the chance of winning it back is high enough to risk it. I couldn't stand loosing my car after a race but some people like it.

Wow, that's awesome. What are the names of some tracks so I can look at them on Google maps? Also, how many Volvo 240's and Classic Saab 900's are still available over there? They are too uncomon to be used like this over here these days.

We've watched those trucks two or three times. I originally thought it was a dumb idea, but I quickly changed my mind. They're hilariously entertaining to watch. You can see how hard the drivers have to work to control them.

Folkrace tracks are spread all over the country. Some of them I know;
Klutmarksbanan, our local track: 64.710887, 20.775694
Lycksele Motorstadion: 64.597865, 18.789495
Kalvholmen Motorstadion: 59.371885, 13.540711
The last one is where they run NGK Masters, a festival that sort of is the unoffical championship, where some "star drivers" are invited. This year for example Andreas Bakkerud and Johan Kristofferson competed.
The 240's and 900's both (classic and "new generation") are reasonably available still, though the numbers are decreasing. The Saab 99 and 900 are very popular because of the very solid body and the fender construction, since it generally won't cut into tyres easily. Most of the cars built for folkrace are way past their useful street life but of course that differs too. They also have an amazingly long life as a "race car".

That is where things get odd... "useful street life" in the US is usually long beyond when a vehicle might be useful for any kind of motorsports. People drive cars until they stop moving, fix the bare minimum, and then keep going. Even in areas where there are vehicle inspections, the inspections are laughable.
I would not want to drive in any kind of competiton where the suspension is literally in danger of falling off of the floorpan, but this is not uncommon to see on the street.
