I'll say it again. There are plenty of douches who ride or drive any kind of car/bike. Straight pipes are assholic, no matter what kind of bike or car you have. I had an 883 black basic sportster that I loved. I will have one again, because no one makes a "standard" bike. No, a Honda 599 is not a standard. My HD sounded good with stock pipes/mufflers, I didn't have any HD gear, but I think it's a cool bike. The rest are people looking for identity.

Wait for them to get off their bike and start talking. If H-D riders tend to act and dress like pirates, (modern) BMW riders tend to be elitist fart sniffing pricks. Airhead guys are fine, if a bit crusty.

They don't make standards like they used to, but I'd say they are still around:

Triumph Street Triple, Triumph Bonneville, Suzuki SV650, Ducati Monster, Honda NC700, Honda Shadow RS, Honda CB1100, BMW F800, Aprillia Shiver.

Now, if you are looking for a UJM, those seem to be pretty much gone.

I recently was driving beside, stopped-beside, driving-beside, stopped-beside a guy on his Harley. Leather pants, tall black boots with buckle and studs, Harley leather jacket, fingerless gloves, half-shell helmet and a bandana on his face with a skull printed on it.

I'm sure it worked to scare old women and young girls but all I could picture is this guy running for the bathroom after eating some bad chili and not being able to get that costume off fast enough and just crapping his pants!

Who do these guys think they are? Otherworldly demons or something? Do they think their chili-diarrhea don't stink?

B.A.A. (Bad A** Accountants), coincidentally, the same sound a sheep makes.

BTW - thanks for that visual, next time one pulls up next to me, I'll have to fight the urge to yell out "watch out for the chili!", because absolutely no one else will know what I'm talking about.

one of the few good things about winter (I hate the cold) is that all the non-hardcore riders will put their bikes away.

as of late I haven't seen many HD pirates... just HD idiots in tanks and flip flops... funny how that was the standard squid dress while I was in Panama City, FL

as for ear plugs... I was commuting 80 miles a day on my stock '97 katana 600... ear plugs made the ride MUCH nicer... the wind noise for the commute would leave my hearing fluttering for a bit after and that was on a quiet bike

That would only be a concern to me if I were in the habit of randomly talking to people on motorcycles while I'm driving my car (which I'm not).

They can be the biggest shiny happy people in the world and I couldn't care less, provided that they don't ride like shiny happy people.

Wow, I posted the origional post from my wife's phone as I was pissed off at having a pleasant family trip interrupted by the typical H.D. douche bags, I checked in when we got home and seem to have stirred up some emotions

So later in the day back in to Harbor Springs we come up behind a cruiser 2 up. I'm amazed and pointed out to my wife that they both have full gear, real helmets and shock of shocks, a real exhaust!!!! My wife laughed and pointed out they were on a Honda. Should have none it was too good to be true

Also stayed in a camp just down from three guys on bikes, two on KTM's and one on a BMW. Guess what? Full gear and quiet pipes, but they were searching for bacon flavoured coffee!!

One of my pet peeves applies to all makes/riders of bikes. Having a radio blasting so loud you can hear it over the sound of the bike when riding. Seriously, do you need to listen to a radio when riding a bike? When the top is down on the Miata I just turn off the radio, no point trying to overcome the sound of wind/driving etc. I really love it when I am sitting at a light with the top down and a biker with straight pipes AND the radio on pulls up next to me.

I was watching one of those Russian dashcam videos on Youtube last night, and there was one scene of guy riding a scooter in a snowstorm. The person in the car moved their camera down to show the temperature display on their dashboard, it was -30C.

They all seem to ride with traffic, obey traffic laws, have very quiet bikes (always with a good muffler), and wear full safety gear (as well as usually a neon yellow vest). I guess that's the BMW bike "scene" but I have never in my life said to myself "damn this guy on the (BMW) bike is annoying or an shiny happy person."

I would tend to agree, but substitute BMW with KLR riders. There are a couple BMW GS guys at work that would always give me crap about riding a KLR and bragging on their "Ultimate Adventure Machines" and then lecture me on not being ATGATT (mind you I was wearing armored jacket, gloves, helmet, but only jeans, and work boots at the time....). This only to have the same aforementioned Power Ranger cut me off while I was driving my wife's car one day and then slam on the brakes for no apparent reason.

Yeah, this really pisses me off, they are usually on goldwings though when that happens....

This post is a riot. Several things. First, I had a collection of old, mid 60's Honda Dreams and Super Hawk 305's, CB 350s, CL450 years ago. My most recent bike was a KLR 650 so I like bikes. Just good ones, not stupid ones. Funny how the Harley guys liked my old hondas because as they all told me, they all started out riding those. But that was 20- 25 years ago. Now I did my senior project in undergrad school on the Harley Davidson company for reasons that are too complicated to go into suffice to say it didn't have anything to do with my feelings on their product, suffice to say I really focused my energy on the buell, which was a seperate company at the time. I don't even know if its still around, I think Harley bought them out if I'm not mistaken.

But I recall working a construction job in college and one day we were all sitting around at lunch and for some reason I recall a couple of their guys started talking about their dreams and aspirations lol! One guy told us all how "one day I'm going to get me a big ole harley, ride it down to (whatever the name was of) his favorite bar and park it out front and go in and have a few beers." He actually teared up a little if I recall and looked wistfully off into the distance when he spoke. Thats it. That was his dream.

So when I drive by some place that has a couple harleys out front, I always see the harley apparel wearing crowd sitting out on the sidewalk tables looking at others hoping they will see them and their bikes and think how cool they are. I have a private chuckle every time I see these losers and they represent about 99% of the harley crowd.

One thing that is true, that every neighborhood, I mean every single neighborhood, has a small-penis douche bag that has a harley. I moved from a crappy neighborhood where the throttle blipper, bar hopping, radio listening, improperly dressed low life's used to get their rocks off doing their stop sign thing at 2 am. But I moved to a much nicer town, where everyone is a professional and educated and yet there of course is a ding dong with a harley on the corner. It never fails.

I don't understand that, but I wouldn't belittle it. If that's something that he gets emotional about, then it would be very tacky to not respect his passion and desire.

Did he also dream of having the only running third gen fbody in his trailer park?

FWIW, There is a loud zx10 in my garage at the moment(my friend took my zx3 back to his house due to rain), but its a Muzzys stage 3 turbo bike that will make 99.999999% of everything on the street seem slow.....and its about a 5th as loud as a open piped harley.

No, his focus did not extend upwards to F-Bodies or trailer parks.

If you look at my post you will see that the bikes to which I gravitate tend to be of the slower variety....when someone starts talking about their bikes and they are throwing around letters like "Z" or "X" I tend to get a little scared. Those are serious "speed freak" type initials. I am not worthy.

I go through that.. or did. I live in an older neighborhood, a little run down, but full of nice (if loud) people. It is the people across the street in the newer neighborhood that are the real problems. Aside from the one house (where they like to hang out in the garage till 2am) we have a few hundred condominiums. One of the people who lives there has all the toys. A modified Mustang, HD, and several offroad bikes.

When he got the HD, it was nothing for him to back it out of the garage, start it up, let it warm up, and then shut it down and put it away.

Having grown up around airplanes, I hate the sound of Harleys. They sound just like misfiring radial engines.
