Does an aftermarket exhaust really add any power to an otherwise stock miata? Especially the 2001 to '05 with the factory header?

That header still feeds the same size catalytic converter and exhaust system. The 2001 header and a larger exhaust pipe will free up a few horsepower.

Good to know. I use my 2001 for autocross, and it needs a new catalytic converter. I was thinking of buying a mid pipe with a high flow converter, then changing the muffler later.

Maybe it's just me. Maybe I've moved past Miatas and the car is totally fine. "It's not you, it's me."

Never ask for advice from people overly invested. Like you said, it's perfectly normal for preferences to change and evolve over time. Just because you no longer agree with a group on what's "best" doesn't make you wrong. Sometimes car enthusiasts are too much like a cult, welcoming with open arms when you agree, and cast you out when you don't. Just move on with life's adventures and don't look back - don't fall into the "I drive this because other people like it" trap.

Good advice. Do what makes you happy.
