I have on rare occasion hit the thumbs down button. It posts a negative count, but then vanishes later.
Why? What does it do?
Is it used for any purpose? Like negative tallies for particular users? Or is it just ignored?
Is it considered something bad to make public or show advertisers?
Seems like it could serve a valuable purpose, but it appears to be a waste of time.

Before the last update the thumbs down would serve a purpose, in that if enough people voted down a post it would "collapse" or hide the post within the thread. At this point a downvote only seems to counter any upvotes a post may get, and while the downvotes are not public, they are still there.
It makes me feel good inside to downvote a stupid post

The buttons are too close together. About half the time I accidentally downvote a post, so then I click the upvote...but I have no idea how that registers on the backside of things?

Everyone gets one upvote and one downvote per post. If you accidentally hit the wrong one you can click the other to offset the first vote, but then you're out of bullets. At that point you can post a reply to that person and say +1 or

I only thumbs down things I think moderators should put eyes on. I actually assumed that was part of the functionality, but i guess not. Too bad, because if it takes more steps than that i'll just let them do their thing without my 'help'.
