Mod motor. The width shouldn't be a issue. It looks like the length and the transmission tunnel will be the killer.
I would want to keep the interior looking mostly stock. That might be hard to do if I have to hack the firewall and transmission tunnel out of the car.
I would hack the tunnel and lower firewall out of the Mustang and graft it into the Maserati. That way you know it will cover the gearbox. Of course this is a slippery slope.
There seems to be some fascination with the Masserati Biturbo on this board. Is it solely due to their refusal to generate their own momentum or is there actually something good about the chassis that I don't know about? While not "Ugly" I can't say as I would really take note of the styling if one drove by.

For me it was being a young preteen boy and reading about all the turbo cars starting to come out in the early 80s and then some crazy Italian put TWO of them on this car.

They are different. Different is good.
Something like this appeals to me.
There is also a stupid cheap V12 Jag local to me that had a minor engine fire...
In reply to NOHOME:
I like them partially because of the massively negative stigma they have (yeah, I'm weird) and because they look a LOT like what a convertible DeLorean would have looked like if they'd been able to go forward with models other than the DMC-12.

What is not to like? As an 80's kid I think they look great. Short overhangs, taut looking, and TWO turbos.
In Greek mythology, the Sirens were beautiful yet dangerous creatures, who lured nearby sailors with their enchanting music and voices to shipwreck on the rocky coast of their island.
The dictionary definition of
siren song
n.
An enticing plea or appeal, especially one that is deceptively alluring.
The Maserati BiTurbo is the perfect Siren Song.
The Maserati name alone brings images to your head of current folklore promising speeds of 185 mph.
The "BiTurbo" further reinforces this image of speed.
The body is wonderfully E30-like in size but to see one in person it intriguingly looks to be as wide as it is long.
The interior looks wonderfully comfortable, inviting and luxurious.
Add to this the fact that most examples you see have less than 45k miles making you believe that they were well cared for or protected from abuse.
It must be a good deal...
...and then you end up on the rocks. Shipwrecked!
I'll sign off on this only if you biturbo the Mustang powerplant... Mustarati BiTurbo.

And name it Rocky, the Italian Stallion.
If it makes it to The Challenge you need to request number 185 and have a bumper sticker that says, "my other car is a limo"

no other words could describe it better
this pretty much has to happen.
I believe this would fit....
Its a bit pricey...(£33,000), but it is available upto 1000hp
Hartley V8, now owned by holeshot racing!
Another option would be to find a good V6 to put in there. Perhaps a Nissan VQ30/35? Still puts out 250-300hp and can be turboed to boot.
All I can add is don't dare bring it to the challenge with a BiTurbo badge if it doesn't have a pair of magic snails inside.
The Nissan VQ is the way that I would personally go, but I also don't have a mustang GT donor sitting right in front of me either.
It would have to start off as a BiFordo. I couldn't keep it under budget and add turbos. I'm pretty sure I could pick up the car for around a grand. I would have to FMV the Mustang around the same price, maybe a little less. That leaves very little wiggle room in the budget. I could probably sell off some bits from both to recoup some funds, but at the end of the day, the budget would be very squeeky.
Now after the Challenge...that's another story.
That said, I have the feeling this would be as large of a project as SanFord is, maybe even larger. While it would be fun as hell to do and drive...We'll have to see if I still think it's a good idea next week. Then, if the Maserati hasn't already sold, I just might have to complicate my life a little more.
In reply to Toyman01:
See my proposal from last year that any Biturbo purchase should be FMVed to $0 regardless of actual purchase price.
In reply to JohnRW1621:
If you can talk the powers that be into that arrangement, I'll throw a offer to the guy tomorrow.
You have my vote. We'll see what other options are out there.
If it's a BiFordo shouldn't it be twin Ford engines?

If I was a moderator, I would go ahead and move this thread to the builds and project cars section.

So, did the guy accept your crazy low ball offer?

Got the BiTurbo home yet? Planning on another epic road trip driving it home? If you do you'll be my hero.
Oh my word, the win if this were possible would be... I can't think of a big enough word for it!
This would take up the entire "say what" section, but it belongs there.
