So the build thread is where?
Go make a build thread!
a coworker has one of those with 4 individual tracks instead of tires.. a company somewhere around here does the conversion..
I've never heard of the lower gears breaking the axles. I used the 3:73 for years with the Rock Lobster gears and 33" Swampers and the only four wheeling was rock crawling boulders where breakage could be expected. Interesting proposition though.
I'd have loved those 5:13's though!
Does it have the driveshaft spacers? How about the heavy duty transfer case mount? I ask just because I built mine slowly and upgraded as needed and these things were.
Spacers? Case mount? Who knows.
I have a camping trip planned for this weekend. I've got to finish getting ready for it. It'll be next week before I dig into it.
Mazdeuce, I got to finish the buy it thread before I start the build it thread.
In reply to Toyman01:
Not true! I've now started three build threads before I ever took possession of the cars. Hell, it was before I had seen them in person. You brought it home, you're way ahead of me.

Sorry, I assumed you'd know since you bought it after looking it over top and bottom. Those things would stand out if you inspected the undercarriage.
Anyway, you bought yourself a great little 4x4! Have fun with it!

Mattracks...far from cheap though.
I want a copy of that rear decal!
Toyman, here are a couple of Sammy sites. I put lockers in mine and a gear in the transfer case so when you're in 4WD Lo, it reduces output by 187%. Before that I always smelled clutch.

My problem is I know just enough to keep from killing myself. Having never laid eyes on a stock one, I'm not sure what is aftermarket.
Since you must be fairly familiar with them, expect some questions.
Yes, please ask away, I'm very well-versed in the ways of the (Suzuki) Samurai. I can't say that about any other vehicle. I'd love to be able to help out!
Let us know how you do off road too. Speaking for myself: very interested in your exploits!

While searching the bay of E, I came across one. Here you go.

OK, as far as drive shaft spacers, I'm going to go with a yes. There are, what appear to be, aluminum spacers in the front and rear drive shafts. HD transfer case mounts, no. The TC needs to come out anyway, so I will probably install one when it goes back together.
As it sits, it's a pretty capable machine. I took it out exploring this afternoon. A little mud, a few ditches crossed. It never complained, other than the front tires hitting if you got it twisted up too much while turning. No odd noises from the axles was a good thing.
It's not quite as clean as it was this morning.
No wonder you don't have room for Keith's donor RX7. So when do we drop a boosted 13B rotary in there?
In reply to Curmudgeon:
No comment on the boosted rotary.
I have no room for the RX-7 because of the nasty gram from the city about un-registered vehicles in the yard. Hence this image.
I can't even turn around and fart in the shop. The Lemons car is in the front garage.
It was a lot of fun (I am Toyman's son). The only bad thing is now I have the itch to go buy something similar. I need to haul kids with me though so unfortunately I am going to have to go bigger. Cherokee maybe?

Only way your username could be better: hits_things_often.
A Cherokee would probably work for you, it's hard to pry them loose though. You might look into a mid 90's Rodeo.
