Old worn out trucks are still kinda cool. Old worn out vans are almost universally gross.

One thing to keep in mind with vans is that just because the cargo is inside doesn't mean that you don't need to secure it. In fact it might be more important to secure it in a van than a truck. In a wreck everything in the back is going to travel to the front at roughly whatever speed you were going before impact. When I was a volunteer fire fighter I responded to two separate accidents with fatalities caused by unsecured cargo in vans.
I feel the same way about wagons like my Saabaru. I hate hauling anything in it for that reason. When I was a teen I got in a crazy wreck where a car jack under my driver's seat exited the car by way of the B pillar. Frightening to see how it nudged the pillar aside
Why not both? I seem to recall an Econoline diesel for sale on this site a few months ago that had a pickup bed AND a van space. ''Twas pretty cool if you ask me.
For me a utility purchase doesn't factor in other people's opinions of how it looks. For me enclosed, shelved storage outweighed hearing tools rattle around.

I think *I* could get there, but the wife will be driving the vehicle to work occasionally, and the wife's opinion is mighty weighty around these parts
