Someone came into my shop today, wanting to trade me a 1987 VW Cabriolet with only 16,000 actual miles for my crusty 1987 924S that may or may not need a clutch. The Cabriolet is "performance beige", needs a top and is (unfortunately) an automatic...
My goal for the 924S was to make it mechanically sound and use it for PCA Autocross and HPDE events, basically to really learn to drive at 10/10ths.
But then, it's "just a 924" and I've been itching to stick a 16V and close ratio 5spd in an A1 chassis VW..
Here's the 924:

Should I do it?

Cabriolet with a bad top vs. a 924 with a bad clutch. Fix the VW, you still have a Bob Costasmobile, fix the 924, you have a real car. Duhhh.
If you are a 16yr old girl who might be in the hunt for homecoming queen and is likely to make varsity cheerleader and its still 1988 then I say... ... ... no anyway. Lets not propagate stereotypes.
everyone please note that I took the high road and chose the "other" sterotype
I recently sold a nice auto Golf for $700....

Thanks guys. I'm keeping the Porsche.
personally, I would rather have the cab...I don't mind the 924S, but a clutch is a hell of a job.

I'm hoping it's just the slave cylinder or air in the lines. I've tried to bleed the system, but I apparently suck at it. The clutch works but grabs/releases up by the firewall and the pedal only has about 3" of travel.

I would keep the Porsche, but then again I am not a fan of VWs...
