So the other day I was talking to a couple of car buddies, and the topic of first cars came up. All, besides myself, agreed that first cars are meant to be crashed while driving...

I mentioned that I am still driving my first car after 4 years, and have yet to crash it.. they replied by saying that I haven't pushed it hard enough....

what do you guys think?

I'm glad I don't live where your buddies live. I managed to avoid any significant damage to my first car all 4 years I drove it.

Never wrecked a car. Hope I never do. I'd say I plan on never wrecking one, except that I do track days and want to go wheel-to-wheel.

I would say a first car is meant to get bashed. You know, back up into a post, scrape against something in a parking lot. Bashes and dings that get bondoed and rattle-canned.

I wrecked my first car on the day before my 17th birthday.

(that was first in a series of cars, not first in a series of wrecks)... all subsequent cars are still in my possession in some form of non-runningness.

never wrecked any car I owned in 20+ years of driving, I have however, wrecked several I didnt own.

The first was a datsun B-210 (Moms!), which i wrapped nicely around a pole while street racing a mustang, i was winning too, until that dam pole jumped out in front of me.. b-210's dont turn as well as mustangs do btw... i thought i was dead meat when i got home, but mom just laughed hysterically after i sheepishly told the story. the driver of the stang was a chick i had the hots for... i guess mom thought id already suffered enough humiliation for the day...

then a bit later i rolled a Subaru brat owned by a friend on a bet... he bet me i couldn't make it though a rather rugged sand pit. they told me later i did a full 360 twist , than another half turn after hitting a berm doing well over 50 off a downhill, all i remember is the world spinning around me.. when my vision came back I crawled out and when he got to the truck , i said "you were right, you win, i couldn't do it," and tossed him the keys.. he was a bit upset... the truck was junk before i rolled it anyway, i just finished it off. after an hour he thought it was the coolest thing hed ever seen, and i was a hurtin puppy for awhile after that.. he never did let me drive his ramcharger though.. but still wish i had video of that one, i would of been betamax around then, but id of had it converted!

i think abusing other peoples cars at their request gave me a real advantage and skill boost early on, and its probably why ive managed to avoid wrecking my own cars...

My first car I blew up from oil starvation, but I didn't wreck it.

I learned when the oil light comes on, YOU PULL THE BERKELEY OVER... NOW.

I backed my $700 72 Mustang into a pole & 1'x1' chunk of bondo & newspaper fell off where the 1/4-panel should have been. Good thing, as that was my only trunk access.

Really, it's amazing that I, or the car, survived that long. Who knew you can't really drive like the Dukes of Hazard???? Seriosly, I caught more air in that car than I care to remember...

My first car (1976 Chevette) was rear-ended by an Orkin truck - I hadn't even had that car for a month yet. I worked the entire summer to save up the $200.00 to buy that beauty. My buddy and I were ok, but the car was totaled.

Second car (1982 Cavalier), I was driving way too fast in the rain and spun across the opposing lane into the path of another car. Fortunately, my girlfriend (now my wife) was not with me as the passenger side door panel hit me in the head and left a 2" scar (head wounds bleed a lot, btw). No one in the other car was hurt.

I went about 12 years without any more accidents until someone pulled out in front of me a few years ago (1996 Breeze). Since then, my current car (2005 TL) has hit two deer - I hate deer.

If the car has a turbo, and the oil light comes on, its already too late...on the upside, tranny fluid does work sometimes to un-seize a gm 2.0T, but it'll still make funny noises after wards.....

If pushing it hard enough means that you need to wreck it you obviously not only suck at driving, but you are to dumb to realize how good you are.

I hit a Christmas tree in my first car. But given that the tree was on the 101 freeway I feel I had the right of way and the tree was at fault. The insurance co felt differently.

What happens if you got hit in your first car, and therefore it got wrecked but it was not your fault at all? I hated my parents for making me drive the wagon, until that 5000 lb wagon taught me the most important physics lesson possible with an older chevy S10 as the example, the wagon barely looked harmed while the S10 looked like a cresent moon from above...

I've been driving for 15 years and never been in a major accident. I have had a few minor bumps here and there, but I've never had a police report filed for anything were I was at fault. Wait, I have wrecked one car, but it was on purpose.

I've been in 2 little fenderbenders, one in a damn parking lot. I did however wreck my first rallycar, on the Emerald Forest stage at Oregon Trail '06. There is no honor in wrecking your first car, or even your first race car, though I spect that the latter is somewhat inevitable..

Up here in the Great Northeast we have a lot of deer that like to cross the road at the wrong time. You can even get Encon to sign off so you can take the carcass home.
