Does that budget buy an e46 m3 with 100k and maintenance records? I don't know bmw values very well.
E36 M3 for sure. I've had an rx8 and it's just not fun unless you drive it at the limit, at which point it's really fun, but because it has no low end torque it's street manners are generally boring. If you were going for general fun car I wouldn't go with it. Track autox car, yes.

M3 or 3 series coupe, s197 mustang gt, rx8, mazdaspeed 3, wrx, g35, or throw any sense of sensibility out of the window and buy a cheap xk8.
There's a pile of E46's on ATL CL in that price range.
