I think you do. Take some old bath towels, blankets or whatever (duct tape and cardboard?) and cover up the cowl area to prevent fresh air from being pulled into the truck. See if the heaterbox blows hotter air. If it does, you have an air leak inside the heater box allowing too much fresh air to mix with the heated air...
