According to the seller, you don’t have to do much to get this Datsun 1200 ready for vintage racing. We assume that means just add fuel and go.

In fact, don’t worry about tires. There’s a new set of Hoosiers already mounted on Panasport wheels, too.

The Datsun comes with “SCCA, MCSCC & VSCDA log books and driver IMRRC documentation …

That left front apron indicates it's had a good shunt in it's life. Still, anything with side draft Webers is something everyone should own at least once.

These cars use really thin sheet metal. It doesn't take much to bend them, especially in that area.

Mine is tweaked there simple from winching on the trailer wrong.

I've thought about mounting a camber plate that way before but I think this is the first time I've seen anyone actually try it...

Doing the camber plates that way was a common thing on 1200s

Yes, a 1200 car is on my bucket list and they are extremely rare around these parts.  I have never seen one around Charlotte, but used to see plenty of them in the San Francisco Bay Area back in the 1980's but my brother and I were too infatuated with 510s and Roadsters to take much notice.  Too bad so many Datsuns rusted out over time and are NLA.

They rust ferociously.

Thankfully I live in a dry desert.

1200s seem to the forgotten Datsun. There is a sedan here locally that the owners are allegedly willing to part with but the last time I asked they said no........maybe I need to ask again.

I remember seeing a lot of 1200s in drag videos from Down Under.  Lots of love for the "dattos" there.

I know someone who has a bunch of GX parts along with the sedan version of the 1200, a true rare egg.

Hah, I figured that would get your attention. A small part of me is debating whether to make him an offer on everything.

Bought one new in '71 when I got out of army and was poor.  It was great fun even in stock form with an at best marginally competent driver.  Bought a second, well used one a few years later...still a useful small car.  These were anything but fast, but showed the potential of a very lightweight car with a decent motor.  No longer on my wish list, but if I had a much bigger garage............

I have GX parts as well but I am still looking for an unmolested head. My spare has a ton milled off of it.

I had a GX head on my engine and managed to destroy it by not realizing the consequences of using deionized water instead of distilled. The poor casting looked like acid had been poured into the cooling passages. A painful lesson for me working my way through college :(
