The auction site Bring a Trailer has been growing quickly and selling more cars every day. But they just full-on cannonballed into the deep end. Tomorrow, one lucky internet bidder will be the proud new owner of a WWII-veteran 1944 M5A1 Stuart tank. According to Bring a Trailer: "[It] was reportedly shipped to Europe late in the Second World …

Paul Allen needs this for the combat armor museum. I just checked - Sherman, T-34, Patton, V-2, etc ; but no Stewart.
Wasn't this a Tier 1 tank in WoT? :)

No, pretty sure it's III or IV. None of you enablers better show this to my son. I think I've finally convinced him "own a tank" isn't a realistic life goal.
It should have a Cadillac V8 in it if that helps anyone.

It actually has two! But it can run on one through a combining gearbox.
No good, I get stuck in the hatch on those.
If the gun was operational, it would make a nifty commuter. Heck, who am I kidding? It would make an awesome commuter even without the gun. Traffic would become irrelevant.
I miss the days when a feller could buy a surplus tank for $10-15000.
Easy way to get FTD at the local autocross after accidentally "crushing" the competition .
All I can think of now is 1987 and the Virginia Beach Beast.
I was interested, but apparently it is classed in STH and I don't think it will outrun the WRX. Maybe try for STS, but not sure about the sway bars available for it...if it were a Sherman I'd have the Eibach ones.

The good news is it will probably pretty much crush the cones in place, so as long as you don't DNF, you're golden.
As an aside, next time you're at VIR there's a neat tank museum in Danville.

If i'm remembering correctly you could get one with a ~105mm cannon on it that had no armor penetration whatsoever but could one-shot anything it could damage. I wrecked a whole lot of low-tier matches.

I work around Cat equipment all day, so seeing tracked vehicles is totally normal for me. Too bad NONE of them are this cool! Something tells me this would make for some good fun out in the deserts around here...

Or claim that your time is the fastest and you didn’t hit any cones. Who’s going to argue with the guy that has the tank.
Somehow I think lt grubers little tank will be more suited to autocross

1956 to 1986?
Maybe not quite that late. But I did follow a half track one day in 1986 that a cop was trying to pull over.
When I was a youngster, I got on the mailing list for surplus stuff. You could actually buy ex-Navy ships. I was looking for the $48 jeep that were packed in cosmoline.

I wonder how much those sold for to the government when new; curious how the price compares i today's dollars to $150K.
SOLD ON 5/31/18 FOR $220,000
A lot of light tanks were sent around the world after WWII. I bet there quite a few left.
