Considering that a genuine Porsche 959 can easily set you back $1 million or more, is a DIY replica the next best thing?
What you are looking at is a 1983 Porsche 911 SC that has been (partially) made to look like a 959 with a body kit.
Sure, the car needs cosmetic work, but the Porsche is billed as …

Ha, a 959 clone popped up in my FB Marketplace light night, and I thought it would be funny if you found the same car.
Yet you didn’t.

I wonder how many different kits they made back in the day, and which ones were the best or worst. I recall seeing an article on one in an old VW&Porsche magazine.
This is the 959 that mom says you have at home.

The paint should buff out just fine and with a little TLC, I'm sure the interior will look great too.
Saw that the asking price was $32,500. I imagine with another $32,500 spent on this thing it might be actually worth about... $30,000.

and yet. I'm still okay with that
Here’s the one that popped up in my feed: 1968 Porsche 912 roller.

I especially like the "P O R S" on the steering wheel. The question is did they leave out an 'O', or is there an unneeded 'R'...?

Looks better than my Porsche... which is to say, I don't have one.
It would look great sitting in my yard.

Looks like a fun project.
Check out the "GT1" setting next to it.
Trying not to come off as a downer here, but. BIL is back being treated for cancer. (He is taking a beating!) The other day he felt good enough to take me for a ride in his Porsche (screaming yellow turbo zonker). It is a year old. We were out for about an hour, he gave it a bit of a workout on some twisties, he was exhausted. He sat down and napped for a hour.
While he was napping my Sis came to me. She said he is obviously in great pain, but asleep he was still smiling! I believe that car is now paid for in full, just from the joy and the smile on his face.
Synopsis: Sometimes, LIVE! Resale value be damned!

Yeah the letters on the steering wheel had me scratching my head as well.

Why the quotes? Maybe it’s a genuine, factory-built GT1?
It could happen.
In reply to AhBNormal :
Oh, totally, it’s good for the soul.
And hope your brother-in-law is healing well.

Oh, and and Fu(4 RESALE VALUE! That's what stocks and bonds are for.

And if you dropped that body over a newer AWD model, it would outperform the 959. Win-win, at half the cost of the 959 (I'm counting labor, I'm not crazy or skilled enough to pull it off). Go challenge Jerry Seinfeld to a race with it.... Oh, was that the $2000 Challenge? I thought you said $200K Challenge!
Judging by the wear on the driver's seat, the 41,000 miles on the odometer seems suspect.

Can't be, if I had it at home it'd be in bits all over my shop .

Rpms and turbo noises saved me from myself in my younger days. Glad to hear your BIL is living life to the fullest, sounds like that Porsche is a fantastic purchase on his part. =)
Saw this at Mecum on Saturday.
Genuine or not?
