The ’80s didn’t exactly keep things on the down-low: big hair, popped collars and loud colors. This 1986 Gemballa Cyrrus, being auctioned by RM Sotheby’s on September 6, captures the entire scene. If you always dreamed of being chased by Crockett and Tubbs, then this is the car.

By the way, JG and I totally combining our pennies to buy this.
I had forgotten how bad 80s supercars looked and how much I loved them as a kid
This is how 30 year future us will talk about RWB 911s and Liberty Walk supercars isn't it.
Just stay out of South Africa.
Once again, we see just how hard it is to improve the look of a Porsche.

Is he planning on becoming a cocaine addic or dealer?
well, the slope nose or "flat nose" was done by the Porsche factory for aerodynamics in racing, so I give that a pass, but the Gembella bits.. nope, there was a lot of coke going into that design

No, I think they were all equally hated during their inception.
Someone needs that, but it isn't me.
This is a car that for me was absolutely fantastic when new but as time has moved on it has become less appealing to me. Don't know why. It is completely the opposite for a wide body 87 911. I liked them but they were not really something I was crazy about. Now however I really want one. There is one parked down the street that a guy appears to DD and I am practically drooling every time I see it. Hell I will sometimes take the longer way home just to see it.
A year or two ago my Porsche mechanic picked up a DP slope-nose, Turbo-look cab--red with white interior. The rear wheels were something like 15x13-inch BBS. It was totally Miami.
There is excess and then there is wretched excess. Gemballa pretty much owned wretched excess.
I have always wanted one in white with a blue interior.

If I had the dough to buy that, I would buy a half dozen really nice 914s instead.

Only if your white Gemballa's got no door handles.

And then I remembered how much I love them today.
It doesn't look as bad from the front angles....
But that profile shot-

I second this motion...
When this "You need this" thing started you guys were right on target, but I gotta say the last 5-6 have been full of "NOPE, would set it on fire if somebody gave it to me surely wouldn't spend money on that..." Maybe a recalibration is due?

That comes from the Over The Top school of auto design that goes by the maxim "if a few creases, wings and doodads are good then a whole wad of them are even better". Sort of like the C7 'vette and the new Civic Type R, all living proof that less is indeed more.
Best looking car ever sculpted.
Anybody who doesn't like that is crazy.
snort... sniffle
Hey, when's that berkelying dealer getting here, I'm almost out!!!
How does someone drive a car like that only 19k miles in 30 years?
