We remember a time when you could get a good Porsche 914 for nearly free. Sadly, that was a long time ago.
So how do we feel about this 1973 Porsche 914 currently awaiting paint for $3750? The Facebook listing bills this Porsche 914 as a 1.7-liter car as having a straight, solid body and an engine that turns over. …

That's a good starting point for resto-mod 914 with an engine swap. They said there's no problem with the Hell-Hole and didn't post a picture of it...

That's the rat hole these FBM links run me down. There goes an hour of productivity...

Good platform. Not the prettiest Porsche ever made, but good handling and can handle a flat six :) I am loving the fact that it doesn't look rusted out and can be saved. Actually, since I am not a purist by any stretch of the imagination, a V8 swap is what I would think would be cool---but that's just me.

Yeah, looks like there are some good bones here. As it’s “just” a 1.7L car, do you use this chassis as a starting point for something not concours correct?
In reply to DavyZ :
A guy in our local SCCA chapter did a Z28 302 swap in one. He raved about the balance.
Needs some 916 flares, wide Fuchs and more cylinders
A turbo Subaru swap would be lighter and would handle better.

Get one of those newer 2200cc VW big bore motors; I think they make soemthing like 150hp in street trim.

Yes, I have heard nothing but good things about the near-perfect balance of a 914 with just about any engine swap. The platform is good/excellent and I kick myself for not buying one in a perfect opportunity in 1992 when I had the chance. In the 1980s I had a GF whose older brother had one and she would take it out when he was out of town. She would stupidly allow me to drive it. I was very impressed with the feel and balance of the car which was way better than my beat 200SX at the time. Datsuns and Porsches--the two demanding mistresses of my life.
Honda/Acura K24 swap. Turbo to 350 ponies. Or NA to 250...
EG33 Subaru + Kennedy adapter would be my choice.
I've got this one in my garage with an in-op engine. It'll probably get a k24 someday.

Outlaw 914, anyone?
Why yes. Please.

Of the SCed engine? No. I have had the housing in the engine bay and there is a plan. Way too much metal work, wiring, sorting out to do to the thing before I get into the engine. A buddy bought one of the super chargers out of a pick-n-pull in CA for about $80. I don't really care about the 1.8l in the car now so it will be ok to boost it and blow it up.

I believe they're 16x8s. I'm not sure if they're real or replicas. The car is a project of my dads that kind of fizzled over the last 10 years as he's lost motivation and been diagnosed with dementia. I pulled the car out of his garage last year but have not given it much investigation. He also has a 6 cylinder for it but I have no idea of its health. My educated guess is that it's not a highly desirable unit, something that maybe a friend of a friend was trying to get out of his garage, or that my dad paid $200 for. He's very frugal. I do know that many years ago, he had it running on this wooden stand.
