My dad was as close to an enthusiast as anyone I knew growing up. In the '80s he had an A40 Celica Supra (with louvers on the hatch LOL)

When I was younger, hated those louvers on the Supra. Used to think a certain thing about those people.

Now, old, cranky, I LOVE and appreciate those louvers.

My parents had one of these POSs when I was growing up.

Followed by a silver Camry.

I'll have to go through and find pictures.

Mom had: '85 Monte Carlo with a 305 and the dog bowls. Black over Blue velour interior with Burlwood accents.

Dad upgraded her to a 92 Blazer that had a fully digital dash, that as a kid, I thought was so cool. It was a black two door with a rear tire carrier on the back and a very 90s graphics package, and a rear hatch spoiler. Bonus - mom had a cell phone with a battery pack the size of a football in it too.

Then she got a 96 Tahoe with the TBI 350 and they had that until my sister and I graduated high school in the mid 2000s. That poor SUV saw me beat the piss out of it whenever I borrowed it. Donuts, one wheeled wonder burn outs, packing 13 friends it in, hitting the old mud bog at the Sebring Zoo for the 12 hour race, etc. It saw it's demise when my brother decided to drive it during a tropical storm and it ended up in a swamp.

Mom got a C5 Vette that she drove until 250k and now she's rocking a C6 Z51 w/ an LS2 and 6speed.

Dad: Because he always gave mom the nice cars, he had an 80s Datsun hardbody for a while, then went to a square eye S10. I remember he was so happy to have that because he could've swapped in a V8; but, all I remember is that it smelled like a pair of sweaty underwear.

He eventually got a Silverado 1500 w/ a V6 and a 5-speed, then a 2001 GMC Sierra, a few different Avalanches, and back to a regular Silverado now.

The cool thing - they still have a 1974 Corvette that they bought when they got married back in the 70s. Dad has also has a big block 66 Chevelle that he's had since 99.

My parents had a grand total of 4 cars while I was growing up. Starting with a 1971 Dodge Demon bought used in 1972. This would be our sole car in the US until 1978 and my mother's car until 1985.  It was supposed to become my car, but for various reasons it didn't happen.

Very much like this one, except gold - even down to only having a driver's side mirror:

We lived in Okinawa from sometime in 1974 to the Summer of 1975.  We had a car there, but I have little memory of it and my mother doesn't remember what it was either.

In 1978 my father finally finished school and got a teaching job at a middle school in northern Georgia and he needed a car. He wanted it to have front wheel drive and a 5 spd manual.  The only option at the time was one of the ugliest cars ever made - a Datsun F10. It was his car for the next 10+ years until he killed it some time after my parents split and he moved back to Virginia.  The first car I attempted to learn stick in, but the dog-leg shift pattern (and imprecise gates) made it tricky for a beginner to learn in. Like this, only in maroon:

In 1985 my parents decided my mother needed a new car. I had managed to convince them wagons were cool and that Subarus were cool.  Unfortunately, we didn't get one with 4WD or the cool white wagon wheels.  Front wheel drive, automatic. Dark blue paint. It eventually met its end around 1993 when my mother had a low-speed spacial disagreement with a tractor trailer.  She was fine, but the car was totaled.  Still... I learned to drive in that car and had a lot of good times in it.

My mother has only owned 3 cars since then.  My father... not sure... his tendency to never maintain his cars meant they usually led short lives under his care.
