Youtube: How to pass three cars while spinning.
Skip to about 0:30 if you want to see it. Stick around after for some glorious sounds.
Forgive me if this is a repost. I couldn't find it on elsewhere on the forum, so I think I'm safe.
I love that. I swear if I ever successfully shed my damn rookie stripe I'm going to sell the E30 GTS car and go vintage racing. Right after I find that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
Why oh why do they put all of those small bore cars in front of those big power cars at the front of the race? Looks like a way to remove a lot of classic iron from the race track!

Haha, that was awesome!! Definately haven't seen that one.
From what it sounds like, that race was quite the circus

Because of bad drivers like the one in that red Vette. Rocket down the straight, snail in the corner. At the start, his "drag race" gives him spots, and then he, and other drivers like him, can hold up the faster small bore cars.
It's all about rich people without ability.

Further proof that Elans are awesome.

Yeah, ain't that the truth. Have you ever seen so many clueless drivers in one race? The camera car was obviously intent on gaining last place. And how did they grid that group - random numbers?
WOW! that was one hell of a recovery! almost looked like it was intentional, haha i'm still laughing here.
In reply to klipless:
I'm surprised he made that corner, being that he was probably laughing his ass off after that save!
I bet he needs a new set of shorts!!!!

If that were me, I'd have pulled in to the pits on the next lap and changed underwear.

Some seriously cool (expensive) cars there. Was that a D-Jag or just an XKE? Yeah, the red Corvette was infuriating, but the Studebaker out ran him. Not something he will brag about.

if you loop it to scrub speed into corner entry, it saves the brakes. obviously, this was on purpose, what an amazing strategist.
~This~ has always been one of my favourite starts (from an EMRA race at Summit Pt.).
You guys ~did~ notice that Studebaker in the first video....right? (at about the 2 min mark). I actually posted a still shot of it a while back.
That was scary. I was involved in one something like that at Moroso (now call Palm Beach Int.) where cars were spinning and crashing all around me. Emerged from the blue smoke intact, luckily enough.

That guy should be re-named Moses.

did the driver of the camera car forget to release the e-brake?

That field was seriously frightening. Was it Let Your Daughter Drive day or something?
the camera car definatly seemed underpowered... look at how every car left him for dead on the straights
BTW, the guy that spun, Arnie Loyning, runs this place:
http://www.loynings.com/
"The Company was founded in 1976 by Arnie Loyning. Arnie has been building
engines for over 30 years. His engines have won 27 National Championships at
the SCCA Runoffs. He has also been a driver since 1965. In 2005 Arnie drove his CSR to a 1st place victory at the National SCCA Runoffs."
That is why he was able to pull that off.
The camera car, was a 68 Ford Cortina GT. So yeah, slow compared to the v8's and heavier than the Lotuses and the Porsche 904. The grid is typically done by qualifying time, so the smaller more nimble cars do better, get tossed up front and then killed from behind by the larger bore cars. If I were running in that group, I'd probably make sure I qualified really well or I'd start from the back and work my way up.
Man, that was WILD lookin'.

It also got some heat into his tires before turn 1.
That field was displaying some textbook bad driving.
