I usually hit the "Latest Topics" button, and see what people are talking about now. I have found out that I am reading stuff posted years ago... but if it new reading material for me, I don't much care how long ago it was posted.

So since I ain't the only one who ain't afraid of zombies
What GREAT threads older than one year need a bump around here?

In town I saw a P71 Zombie patrol car, I thought I was seeing stuff, but my wife confirmed that it was real.
I don't mind zombie threads unless it's brought back by a newbie for reasons to attack another member (which happened on the CM board recently) or one that's asking if the car is still for sale from two years ago.
I also don't have a problem with people posting new thread on something that was discussed a year ago. Especially on this board when threads are constantly being added. If somebody want to post a link to a previous post, that's cool.
It seems the worst places for the members hating on members for making new threads is Model/Make specific boards.
Good example here.
Didn't even bother to look, and the post he quoted (from another poster) doesn't exist.

That's because Keith hasn't hauled out the tattoo gun yet.

Well I'll tell you for a fact that it has not worked well for me on many occasions (though...I'd say it is a bit better than the search function on the forum).
And I'll also say that telling people to use another search method than one that's actually on the site is a solid case to just get rid of the search function on the site. (I've seen forums that do that, too.)
You'll need to log in to post.
