Its 7:53AM. I have been up since 6:30 Thursday and after a day at work, and a night class i packed up the van and drove straight from home to Oceanside New York. Arrived around 3:30AM.

Im buyin' me another bike. So, now everyone can relax--no more what bike threads from me or which bike is better or any of that. I think i found a keeper.

Well, that being said, i have to refill my MickyD's coffee and go meet the owner to finish a sale.

Thanks for your help everyone and patience.

Ill post more details up soon and keep you waiting in suspense till then

Oh and if you want a free 81 cb650, can't find title, just drive out another 40 miles, and it's yours. Or you can just come by to visit and get some lunch, shoot some sht, and brainstorm on my 11 challenge car..

I don't believe you. I give it less than three months before the bike A.D.D. kicks in.

Went to NY to buy a 2003 Yamaha FZ1. Yes, there are FZ1s all over Ohio and the USA haha.

It has 2375 miles on it. Pretty much mint condition. Aftermarket grips, Yoshimura exhaust, K&N filter. just tuned up.

It was a fun trip honestly. Never knew PA was such a beautiful state. great drive along I-80.

Awesome bike! I love how subdued the FZ1s are. At roughly twice the power of an SV650, riding it must feel like time warping. Don't kill yourself on it; the bike is too nice to mess up.

Oh, and reading about the FZ1 had me in a Wikipedia thought-train checking out modern literbikes. Just about all of them are more powerful than my SVT Focus. That is terrifying.

Liter bikes these days are immense performance bargains. They will also get you in trouble at light speed.

Be careful Carkid! You can ride that bike safely as long as you keep your wits about you and regulate the power.

Sounds like a great buy.

Well im checking in here again to give an update.

I have ridden the FZ1 a tad over 1000 miles since i bought it a few months ago. Honestly, this is a LOT of bike. A LOT.

BUT, its not a touchy or twitchy or hard to ride bike. It handles very well, i feel more planted on it then the SV650, the brakes are superb and its very easy to move around.

The engine is just an amazing piece of machinery. It is so powerful, so smooth and revs so quickly it just amazes me. I shift around 6500-7500 ish usually (just a guess) and i feel as though the redline could be there and the bike would still be powerful enough for everything possible. Redline is actually almost 12K. One thing that astounds me it that i can accelerate and up to midway through the RPM range and it pulls like a mother but then halfway through it has a second wind and pulls just as strong to redline. Its pretty cool.

The bike is super comfortable in terms or body position. The windshield is good but i am taller and could use a taller or differently designed one. (i am 6ft 4in) The seat is ok, i would upgrade for longer rides for sure. I have ridden a lot with my girlfriend on back and she said she has always been comfortable in terms or seating, noise, wind etc. With two up riding its no problem. The bike is powerful enough that you dont even notice the extra weight. Speaking of weight, its a heavier bike but again you do not even notice.

My best friend took my SV650 and the gf and I went on a totally random 200 mile round trip to Presque Isle PA. Gas mileage is good and the ride went without a hickup. I have ridden it in most every traffic condition and its just a great bike. Right now i cant think of any negatives.

I have added a RAM mount for a GPS unit and so far i am pleased with it. The quality of the RAM mounts is pretty amazing.

So over all i guess you could say i love the bike.

Great looking bike? What ram mount did you go with? I just ordered a bunch of different mounts to try on my bike. I got a lot of nice routes around the millersburg ohio area that me and the wife like to ride, but we keep getting lost or finding nice roads and forgetting where the are.

Cool, a friend of mine just bought an '03 fz1 in sweet yamaha yellow and black. Its got 53,000 miles on it and runs perfect, with the same pipe as yours, plus K&Ns, so things look good for your future. Your van is nice, he got to ride his home in the snow....

I got the 7/8" handle bar mount, the short extender and of course the Garmin Nuvi 255W cradle. Just takes some playing to get it to just exactly where you want it.

I got the same GPS.

I used the mirror hole to mount mine as the steering damper was in the way of mounting it to the bars. the only issue is that it is hard to read in direct sun.

We are going on an overnight trip this weekend to southern Ohio - I just need to hard wire the GPS to the battery and finish re-shoeing the wife's ride.

Monster S4 and 1098? You and your wife don't mess around.

Yeah, We picked both of them up this spring. My wife was looking for a used 848 but couldn’t find one in red. Since it was her first bike I thought “why not get the bigger one” that way she won’t out grow it right away.
