Ok so I have been back on a motorcycle for the last couple months and I love it. I remember why I quit, could not afford a safe bike with the speed I wanted, I could not ride as well as I thought I could and training was beyond the budget as well. Its different now, I know how fast I actually am and can enjoy that speed. I can take training/track time and eat the cost of time and tires.
I have let a bunch of my cars go in the last year, or replaced them with fun cheaper cars, sold the last of project cars that I had stored around and in general made space. I am down to a reasonable 7 cars all on site. I have my Harley for long rides and I have finally got it where I want it, the MT03 is really good at being a city bike. But weekend riding is problematic, I have at least a 40 minute ride out of the city to get anywhere fun, its often early in the morning with slightly damp roads, freeway speeds and distances take the MT03 out of commission with the small tank and terrible passing power.
I have an unlimited budget for a bike, nothing is off the table but I have some restrictions.
- 80-130hp is my sweet spot
- Must have traction control, ABS, wheelie control.
- Rain mode with reduced power is a must
- Prefer full fairing.
- The higher the revving the better
- Narrow enough that you can split lanes.
- The more exotic the better ( I have all the major manufactures here in town)
- No under seat exhaust.
- Adjustable rear sets available.
- I want the very best suspension available
- Sounds good with stock exhaust
So far the best fit I have found is the RS660, the second best is 950S Ducati Supersport which I like the look of but find it boring. Looking at a 2021 F3 675 today, same as a 959 Corse. Starting to branch out. SuperVolece 800, V2 Bayliss, when they made a V2 streetfighter I would like that but there are 15 people on the wait list locally for that. Thoughts?
If it wasn't for the "no underseat exhaust", my first though was MV Agusta F4.

MV Agusta Brutale?
Aprilia RSV4?
I haven't looked at the specs but those would be two on my short list at "no budget"
I would do things I'm not proud of for a Superveloce.
Brutale is really nice I took a few year old RR out but the wind protection is lacking. Electronics are nice though. Love the lace wheels and the side exhaust as well but the local on has the sc project exhaust which I don't like. Would have to swap back for the standard pipes.
supervolece is my top pick right now on looks alone. I have only seen the special editions for sale and I like the standard red. I can get a f3 675 for 12.5k new delivered from euro cycle.l they just called me back on that. Then dump some cash in to make it look like a oro. . A Brutale 800 for about 10k as well.
Been thinking about this for a while now today put this out to get me head on straight. Prices are here so I can remember what was said.
So 18K + tax for the SV in red. Dealer has said the F3 is a better bike to own as the SV as the seat is better to move around in and will fit me at my height. Still gorgeous.
Dealer in Reno has a 675cc F3 in similar colors that we are confirming they have at 12.2K delivered + tax. PRetty sure its the last 675cc for sale new in the country.
GP my normal dealer has a 800 RR Brutalle with a bunch of modifications. I think I can get it for 13K but no much warranty left.
Then there is a 959 Corse that I can get at 15.5K with ~3K miles. Love the color and spec on this one and it has the upgraded suspension being a corse. But no IMU that is only on the v2. V2 will run me right around 19K without tax with the current demand if Iwant to jump to the head of the line and I have to pay MSRP.
Wife and I took a long drive out to a showroom that had most everything. The 899 959 are out they are full race tuck bikes. The v2 is nice, of course the v2 street fighter launched today and they were all a twitter about that.
The supersport 950s is fantastic but has zero drama. They had one with an exhaust that makes it much better. Best comfortable usable bike I sat on.
The f3 fits like a glove. They were really pushing the super sport over the f3 just for reliability reasons. They did say the brute 800 is a really good bike and worth the premium over the Rosso. 140hp on a naked is pushing my boundaries.
Different shop had a 660rs that was sold but I got to sit on. Of all the bikes that is the best middle of the road option. Sounds good and the electronics are very interesting. They had a 2019 super sport S in matte white that they gave me a number on that makes a lot of sense still under warranty.
supersports would need a exhaust, tail tidy and some vinyl tircolore livery but it's interesting.
I started thinking Aprilia RS660 as I got into reading the meat of your post, and even more so as I got towards the bottom, so glad to see it in your list.
That's all I've got for now, but following along to see where this goes...
I lean toward the Tuono instead of the RS, but Aprilias have always been my "maybe someday" bikes.
Ok lots of test riding today.
yamaha had a rider day locally. Took a mt09/mt07 and a r7 out just for comparison sake. The mt07 is just a really good bike. If it was Italian and had style people would line up for it at 3k over what Yamaha could sell it for.
The R7 is really aggressive. Like who did they think was going to buy a full sport bike with 70hp. Tons of fun though and the suspension is really good for the price. But for 2k more you should get the rs660 every time.
the mt09 is a hooligan. Needs better electronics.
also got to test ride a r18 because it was there and the salesman talked me into it. Not sure how bmw made a worse bike then a 2001 softail. It's bone shatteringly harsh, you cannot get your feet in to shift and the heat coming off that engine even at speed is really bad. Also abismal ground clearance. Good power though and it wil cruise at 80mph all day.
also rode a FTR Indian because I liked the look of it. 120hp and that torque with that short of gearing and it's fast. Really fast. Seat is not great but first one riding with traction control and no matter what I did I could not upset the bike. Actually thinking about this.
so really is down to the rs660 and the 950s supersport, v2 street fighter, superveloce or the brutalle. Actually leaning towards the mv agusta because it has flat bars, decent wind coverage, love the wheels and it sounds fantastic. Still have not test risen it and I would order a 2022 so I could get the imu and the better screen. Dad and I are going up to Glendale to look at the SV tomorrow if I can talk him into it. That is about the same price as the B if I were to get a brand new 2022. They are telling me 17k is a possibility.
New Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR looks pretty good.

I like the FTR but that exhaust needs work.

The FTR S I rode had the factory akrapovic exhaust and it was pitiful. California regs and all that. They do have a little plug that lets you remove the to clean the inside baffle. Would be a shame if you were to loose it while cleaning. Seriously hot on the right leg though.
I know it's not really the best choice for any of your criteria...
BUT LOOK AT IT!!
BMW XR1000R is a great comfortable do-it-all bike and has all the electronic nannies you want. Same as my S1000RR but in a more sedated package.
If FTR is the choice the S+S exhaust completes the flat track look they were going for.
So I bought a Ducati today. Being delivered in a few hours. Details to follow.
Picked up a matte white 950S supersport. So how did I do.
- 80-130hp is my sweet spot
- Must have traction control, ABS, wheelie control.
- DTC/ABS and all the good stuff. No IMU though. There are no 2021's available anywhere in the white with the IMU.
- Rain mode with reduced power is a must
- Has a city mode that restricts the bike to 60hp and makes it docile.
- Prefer full fairing.
- Has a adjustable windsheild that is tool less to use.
- The higher the revving the better
- Ehh 8000 rpm and 80% of the power at 4000rpm.
- Narrow enough that you can split lanes.
- Super narrow. ~420 lbs give or take.
- The more exotic the better ( I have all the major manufactures here in town)
- It's a Ducati but not a crazy one. Will fix that with a wrap.
- No under seat exhaust.
- Adjustable rear sets available.
- Not needed on this one I actually fit.
- I want the very best suspension available
- ohlens front and rear. Fully adjustable.
- Sounds good with stock exhaust
- Sounds good and it is surprisingly loud for stock.
So it already has the plate relocation kit, the tank pad, the better grips with weights, super nice adjustable levers and came with a lock and charger.
So I am not 100% sold on the full white paint job. I found a company that sells a Corse wrap. Then a quick bit of carbon to cover the exhaust.

That's gonna be stupid fun.
Same power as my Stelvio and 200lbs lighter.
Very nice. I went through the process recently. Got as far as requesting a quote on a Panigale V2 from a local dealer. Fortunately, they were slow on the response and I came to my senses. Ended up with a matte black original owner '11 848 Evo that meets none of your requirements but works for me!
I looked at a used 959 Panigale at another local dealer. I didn't like the white in person and, more importantly, the asking price was about the same as it cost new! I can't see spending that much with no warranty. In the end, I paid $6500 and the 78yo seller, a friend of a friend, threw in a Harbor Freight work table.
If (IF!) I actually use this thing, I'll take stock again next fall. Hopefully the madness will have eased up.
I looked at a 848 2013 special edition but man that bike was uncompromising. I will eventually get a v2 streetfighter when they start to come into the used market.
took a long ride. Needs a lot of suspension setup and it cooks your privates so bad you would think something is wrong with the bike. Going to have to wrap the exhaust and put foil under the seat.
There's a salvage title non-running SE local to me. For the right price, I'd snag it just to get traction control on my bike.
I find it fairly comfortable but I have long arms and am used to riding in the drops for hours on my road bike.
One good thing about the older architecture is less private part burning (is it really too hard for Ducati to fix?) although I may regret retrofitting mufflers w/cats when it gets warmer. At least I won't be deaf!
In reply to wearymicrobe :
Congratulations! Love Ducatis!
Just curious more than anything, did you look at finding a Daytona 765 Moto2 bike?

Exactly.
Look at those two silly cans sticking up on the back that don't suit the rest of the styling at all.
