Whats the deal with their motorcycles?

Are they worth buying or are they crap?

I prefer fact over opinion here but all is welcome i suppose

Think the same as Korean cars. Solid sonstruction, retro-engineeried technology, no resale value. Good bikes but not impressive performance. If you buy bikes to ride into the ground they are a good way to go, becuase they do come with a warrenty.

The problem is most Japanese bikes are already bulletproof simple, and many have reached the bottom of their depreciattion curve, (think less than a thousand.) The Hyuosongs undercut their Japanese counterparts by a good margin, but if you want a cheap bike, buy 80'/90's japanese. If you plan on communting and keeping the bike for the next decade, go Hyosung.

In another few years, I would expect them to be major players in the market, if they follow the business model of their four wheel counterparts. 15 years ago, an enthusiast who seriously considered a Hyundai would be ridiculed, but many on this board are seriously looking at the new Genesis Coupe, or its more powerful 4 door brother. I would be surprised if Hyosung doesn;t do the same thing.

A friend has the little Hyosung sporty bike (250 V-twin?). She likes it. Light enough for a small person who doesn't ride often, very cheap to buy, and it's different than the standard Ninja 250. You might be able to find a new one that's been sitting at a dealer for a few years for dirt cheap.

There is a dealership here in town who swear by these things. They should, they sell'em. But just the same they say the warranty is very good and usually honored.

I like the looks of their mini V-Rod cruiser.

Pretty nice right? 650cc's.

There good bikes the motors are the older SV650's and the warranty is awesome on them.

look at their website, they have been producing parts and engines for suzuki for 30+ years, so they know how to make bikes. quality is on the cheap side on some stuff, like heavy wheels, but other stuff is nice, upsidedown forks on a 250. go to their website and look for the dealer that is nearest you. like all dealers of late they are struggling and some don't have the capitol to weather the storm, hint good deals. I got a new 250 for more than a 1000 off plus rebates (like 660ish).

I saw a lot of them on the road in Spain...not sure if that is good or bad, since most of the bikes I saw there had been dropped it is very possible that they consider them disposable.

That's not quite true. The motors are similar but a little different, good news is that they're fuel injected this year!

Compared to an SV650/Gladius you get USD forks, better brakes and a teensy bit more horsepower. And they're like 2 grand cheaper.

But, eh. I dunno. Korean motorbike? And it's not like SV650's aren't out there used...

Is carkid really going to buy a motorbike? I've got 5 bucks that says he doesn't buy anything with two wheels before the end of the year.

No one has accepted my bet, and CarKid is ineligible for obvious reasons.

And I want video proof of you riding YOUR motorcycle before I'll pay up to whomever accepts my bet.

Video Proof = riding on the street with an inspection and plates OR riding on a legitimate trail if an off road bike.

Really though, I wish someone here did own a Hyosung. I can't bring myself to cough up the cash for an ugly gladius, and now that Hyosungs are fuel injected, there's not much reason for me not to buy one. But all the magazine reviews in the world aren't worth 1 person who actually rides it every day saying 'Yeah, it's pretty groovy.'

Fuel injected? Really... Heavily depreciates? Really...

Well, I guess if the 250 is OK the 650 probably is ok too.

Can you say TL1000?

Now THATS a heck of a bike for little money.

My old roommate had a Hyosung scooter "The Gerbil". It was dead nuts reliable and you could fit a complete 30 pack under the seat.

My buddy got the naked 650 threw some clipons on it with a set of rear sets and it's a blast to ride.He also got a $600.00 gas card when he purchased it.It's had to go in for warranty work twice now once for a faulty rectifier and I can't remember the other thing but it cost him nothing out of pocket.

1: Better Ergs for fat dudes.

2: Try finding a Ninja 250 for "200 bux more". They've been selling like nuts.

I worked in a shop that sold Hyosungs - the only new line we carried. We mainly did European and vintage Japanese service.

The injected models are considerably snappier than the carbed engines, but the carbs are no slouches. They're well screwed together for the most part, but we had a few niggling issues with a couple out of the crate. Since we were a reputable shop, we resolved them before we shipped them out. But since these are lower-end bikes with a small dealer network, buyer beware in regards to the dealer service and warranty side of things. By the time I left, we'd been selling them for about a year, and we hadn't fielded a single warranty complaint.

The 650 twin is a different motor than Suzuki's SV, and by virtue of it being a newer design, makes a few more hp on paper. It feels to me like there's a lot of power left on the table that freer breathing could tap into.

All in all, they're quality bikes, especially for the money.

I'm a little out of practice, but if anybody has specific questions about these bikes, I'll be happy to field them.

However, I'm feeling generous. If you can provide the above proof, I'll mail you a crisp shiney 5 dolla bill.
