Saw an ad similar to the one above where Shoei was at a dealer doing those "custom fits" close enough to my job site that I could swing in over lunch. Had been wanting to get a new helmet, and typically end up in whatever the "mid-tier" or "all around" model is from either Shoei or Arai, so figured it was worth a lunch break.
My report, in brief, is that it works/is worth it. They measure your head a few different ways with a little jig, enter the measurements into a program with what model and size helmet, and it tells them which additional pads to stick where, primarily on the "center" pad section. The RF-1400 fit "fine" out of the box, so I didn't expect their customization to make much difference, but it honestly did. Noticeably better.
Just wanted to toss it out there if anyone happens to see one of these opportunities nearby. Sounds like they have very few dealers that have the ability to do it in-house, so it's normally these "pop-up" type deals.
I love my Shoei helmet. I should get a new one soon.
This if cool. I would like to get a fitted helmet for HPDE at some point. The Zamp I have fits OK, but the cheeks are still really tight.
Are these extra pads you add sourced through Shoei? I don't remember my helmet being supplied with extra pads.

They don't come with them unless you purchase with a custom fitting. And they email you the file, so you can use it to order your next helmet without going somewhere to get fitted.

When I bought mine years ago I bought different thinner cheek pads.

I guess that's also worth noting, the cheek pads are not part of the fitting. If you want thinner cheek pads, you just have to buy thinner cheek pads.
In my case, the supplied cheek pads work well.
The email you get.
Please don't steal my bank accounts using my detailed head measurements*
Shoei helmets and the fitting stuff are LEGIT. I went from a $50 helmet to one of these things and it was 200% worth the money. My only regret was not buying it sooner.
That's pretty cool. How much did the session cost? After experimenting with several brands, I ended up with Shoei years ago and love the fit; now that's all that I will buy. An even better-fitting lid sounds awesome.

Shoei is the only one to date that's made a lid that fits my bigass head. It was expensive. I only got to use it once before my (ex)wife ended all my fun. It was worth it.
This is a great idea, I've often wished for a custom helmet fitting service.
