So I picked up a 1991 Yamaha Genesis. It's a parts bike since I don't have a title. I know nothing these bikes.
Is there a good place to find information about these?
Are the engines any good? Any easy way to determine what size engine is on the one I have sitting in my garage?

Is the frame steel or aluminum? Are the plastics original? What's the headlight configuration? Tire sizes? Yamaha put the Genesis name on a bunch of bikes from middle 80's to the early 90's. If you've got an aluminum deltabox (should have a sticker saying this on the frame) frame and a trapezoidal headlight you've got an FZR1000 (this is what I'm usually riding these days). If it's a steel deltabox frame, has twin round headlights, and a tire size around 130/70/18. If it's an aluminum deltabox frame with twin round headlights it's probably an FZR400. The Genesis name was also applied to the FZ750 as well. That one had a steel perimeter frame and twin headlights.
You might be able to find the engine size by removing the side fairings and looking around the the cylinders. Japanese manufacturers typically cast numbers denoting the size into them.

It's got an aluminum frame and a trapezoidal headlight. I'm not at home right now so I'm not sure about the tire size. But sounds like an FZR1000.
What kind of hp does the engine on one of those put out?

I picked up a Kawasaki 440 and the FZR last night in trade for some stuff I had in the garage that I couldn't get rid of. I had pretty close to $0 in what I traded the guy. Figured the aluminum frame would be worth something if nothing else.
Damn. I'm jealous. I've been looking for a cheap FZR1000 to build a low cost land speed bike out of.... Its one of the cheaper (forgotten) liter-bikes out there. But 140hp is NO joke.
Also, my first bike was a KZ440. I liked it alot and sorta wish i still had it.
Next to "free" for those two bikes is a screamin' deal!
You may be able to get a title, and for a fazer 1k it might be worth the trouble.
Did some more looking over the bike and confirmed that it is not a 1000. It's a 1992 FZR600.
I'd love to have that FZR just for nostalgia. My brother had one when I was little and I remember thinking how awesome it was.

If that is an FZR 1000, you have a serious machine. In its day there was a battle between the Honda 900rr, GSXR1100 and FZR1000 for sport bike rule. Of course there were the hyper street monsters like the zx1100 (170 mph), Katana 1100 (165 mph), but the FZR 1000 (160+ it could turn) could run with anything on the street

I loved the dual headlight look on the FZR400/600. Just swap out the tail/seat section for something more modern and it looks as good as the modern supersports IMO.
