What's up with the theme? Not one grassroots car on it. I mean I like Grand-Am cars as much as the next guy,so it's not like I'm really that bothered by it, but not what I was really expecting on my GRM calender.

Sponsorship money, says there right on the very back.

It's not free, the cost is factored into subscription/advertising costs somehow.
Carguy's right, it's not free. Oh, it doesn't cost you guys anything--it is not factored into the subscription cost--but we pay mid-5-figures to print and mail the calendars to our subscribers. So that we can do this at no cost to those subscribers, we sell advertising and sponsorship to companies we feel are closely allied to our readers' interests. Such as Grand-Am, which we've covered for years.
Sorry it wasn't what you were expecting. Honestly, the calendar production on top of the regular magazine deadlines is very taxing for our small staff, and we've already talked about not doing it again next year. Based on the feedback we're getting, it would appear that's the right direction.

How much would a calendar cost that has some little ads on each page but the monthly feature car was, say, the to 10 finishers at the previous years 200X challenge and two additional cars that the readers voted on?
Sad
I like the GRM calender, even with the ads. It hangs in my home office. I will miss the vast variety of the previous years, but the Grand Am shots picked are pretty awesome.

I believe the going rate for calendars starts at about $12, though of course that's because retail calendars are sold in much larger volume than what we'd generate. Office Depot or Hallmark, we're not, and our distribution channels are set up for magazines. Because that's the business we're in, not calendars. We'd be extremely lucky to sell a couple hundred, and at that rate even $12 wouldn't generate enough to cover printing and mailing costs, never mind the layout, photos, and staff time. And I can't imagine the complaints we'd get over a $12 calendar, judging by how tough the market is on a free one.

I'm grateful for my calendar, which arrived yesterday (just in time!). The GRM calendar occupies a conspicuous spot behind my workbench, and if I didn't have it, I'd have to go buy some sort of tool to fill the space.
I get that it isn't "free". It is a terrific bonus to my subscription. Thanks Tim and Margie. Happy new year.

Your efforts are greatly appreciated! Cars is cars, I like em all. I especially like em in calendars that are PC enough to hang in my cube, which is rare these days for car calendars. Please dont take them away!
I was just handed mine by the "Boss lady" When I open it if I dont like the photos I have three years on the same nail in my shop at work. I have scisors and glue and know how to cut pictures out and paste them over the existing ones.
On a side note my Grandfather told me to never look a gift horse in the mouth, never look him up the other end either.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like my calendar, ads and all. If I don't get one next year what am I going to use to cover up that hole in my wall?

Yeah, it would be a bummer to not have one next year - even though I was one of the ones complaining about this one. I like to hang them in my cube at work - all the NASCAR people are confused by it when they see race cars that are not numbered 48 or 24.
Remember the folks here on the message board are a bit different than your average subscribers - just because we like to bitch about things take it with a grain of salt please. I can only guess the amount of work that goes into putting a calendar together and getting it printed out and mailed.

Maybe next year you could interest Fredricks of Hollywood
I love my calender as well no matter what cars are sported in each photo. I do like the photo for February especially!
Calendars aren't really all that useful. That's not to say they aren't nice to have or nice to look at, but let's be honest, how many of you remember to turn the pages to the next month on time?
So it really isn't the calendar you want, it's the PIXTURES!
I know I find a pic I like and it stays up until I'm tired of it. I've mentioned in other posts that I have multiple years calendars on my wall. It's not so that I can remember what 1984 was like, it's to laugh at the guys in high and tight shorts and the girls hair - oh yeah, and to look at the cars.
CAR PORN! That's all that matters!
GRM has always had a tight relationship with Grand Am, and I appreciate that they were generous enough to assist in the production of another great calendar.
I love the close racing and GRM style attitude of many of the teams in Grand Am.
Margie, Disregard what some dumbtards say about your calendars, they are awesome, and I appreciate receiving them every year. Please don't stop.
Thanks!
Margie,
Don't take the golden rule quote to imply I don't love my calender, I do. On the first of each month at my work we compare who has the coolest calender photo , I won 7 out of 12 last year.
I was simply implying, with crude humor you are running a business for profit. Either way all of you keep up the great work.
I like the suggestion for the 2 car a month set up, or 2010 format.
No problems with my calendar, I love it and it has pride of place beside my desk, 2011 will go up tomorrow.
Thanks GRM
Woah woah, don't get too offended there. I understand the golden rule, and I understand what it takes to make these and deliver them. But all the hard work, and all the money spent, is wasted if it's for the wrong thing. It doesn't mean you didn't work hard, or that you didn't make a great callender.
Like I said, I'm not really that bothered by the Grand-Am cars, it's going up right where my 2010 GRM calender is. However, all the sensativity aside, you have to acknowledge that it's is indeed a "Grassroots Motorsports" callender without "Grassroots Motorsports".
That's all I was trying to say. I don't hate it, I am not upset, and I do appreciate the calender. I have one and only one subscription anything that I pay for, and I am paid for several years out. That should make it clear that I do appreciate GRM and all it has to offer.
Take the good with the bad.
I disagree. About it not having Grassroots Motorsports in it, that is. But I understand that this board has different demographics from the larger audience, and part of that is a narrower def. of what's grassroots, so no biggie there.
And please don't confuse my honest post about our discussions re: doing the calendar next year with an "I'm taking my ball and going home" attitude. We are running a business, and part of that is to always be analyzing what we're doing and how it's working. That's just what you do.
Margie
Margie, please try to ignore the whiners ... I'm sure they don't represent the majority of your readers... (the forum is different)
I can only speak for myself, but that said....... I really look forward to the calendar ... it hangs at work (lots of folk stop by my work bench to see what's next )
and in answer to an earlier post ... yeah I remember to turn the page... every line on each traveler (work order) has to be stamped off with who and when....
PLEASE KEEP THE CALENDAR COMING
