Oh, and about the opening line: "For most of the past decade, the uncontested King of the Road has been the Shelby GT500."
I think some might disagree with that.

You don't need to delete the rear seat in the Laguna Seca, Ford did it for you.
The Boss 302 (especially Laguna Seca) waaaaaay out-handles the GT500, one's an athlete, the other's a monster bludgeon with a big....
I'm on my way to LA with Ford, will post pics of the engine bay tomorrow

I forget, how much money did Ford take?

Nevertheless, they didn't take any bailout money. And the gov still owns a good portion of GM, which IMO is a real conflict of interest. And Chrysler...Well they're Chrysler. I've been pondering a new vehicle buy, and I have to say that the factors above have me looking mostly at Ford.
650 hp gents.

I personally like the 3rd paragraph.
"Further enhancements can be had in the GT500 Performance Pack, which incorporates SVT-designed Blistein electronic adjustable dampers with 'normal' and 'sport' modes and a Torsen limited-slip differential. What's more, the Track Package adds an external engine oil cooler, rear differential cooler and transmission cooler. Like the current GT500, 19-inch wheels are standard up front (20-inch rollers are found out back) and a Brembo braking system keeps everything in check when its time to control all that force. The whole package weighs in at just 3,850 pounds – 270 less than the Camaro ZL1 – and Ford says it will not be subject to the dreaded Gas Guzzler Tax."

Probably the one over by the Viper ACR-X or Z-06.

Find out if they will be offering it in a crate so I don't have to wait until a pile of flat-billers ball them up to use them in projects.

um... I seem to recall that Chrysler got a bailout in the early 80s.. so I would not say that ford invented it.
They pulled the sheet off the monster Mustang tonight – at a club that was sort of Bombay Palace meets early whorehouse... Carroll Shelby was there. He's looking really frail.

Aren't they already?
I thought I saw an article about someone who's already swapped the new 5.0 into a Fox body.
Yeah new 5.0L is a crate.
and since this is the GT 500 thread (2011 model of course.)
It is also confirmed to get the ECOBoost V6.
I see a 335i vs M3 issue very soon if they put the lineup with V6 N/A, ECOBoost V6, 5.0 GT, and GT500.
It won't get to the Shelby level but it will have something for the GT.
Honestly I am surprised Ford took the route they did with the Shelby. I thought they were axing the modular line and instead they bore it out and continue with the baddest beast yet? I'm confused.
Lesley you may be there with one of my buddies that works for Ford to. His FB status last night was "Just met Shelby, check that off my bucket list" haha.
My plan is that once I complete all my military training and barring a deployment overseas is to buy a new Boss 302. I miss my 06 supercharged GT so much!

The new 5.8 in the Shelby GT500 has jack nothing to do with the old crap-tastic so-called "modular" motor. It's the Coyote Plus engine developed with the 5.0. They are all new except for the bore spacing. No parts will transfer over either way (Mod to Coyote or visa-versa). The 5.8 is available as an N/A 6.2 in the F-150.

Just think.. he can keep the "5.0" emblems too

You are the only one saying that. All the Automobile "press" is saying it is a bored 5.4
Not saying I don't believe you, just you are the only source I have read that from.

It's unpossible to "bore" a 5.4. The bore is already at the max due to the engines extremely tight bore spacing and already siamesed cylinder walls. At least, that's what C/D and Hot Rod both told me.
