I'm not buying one but GM has a big sale. I check out the cars near work since they border Walmart. They have a 2015 (not eligible) made in March, 2015.
What do you think about a car sitting that long? Never an issue?

The clock starts on all of the polymer based materials (hoses, seals, trim pieces, etc.) the moment they are made.
One time while buying my wife a new Explorer on the Ford X-Plan, I noticed that there was one on our local dealer’s lot that was the exact right color, trim, & options we wanted but it had a seven month old build date and there was another one thirty miles away that was identical but was only six weeks old.
I asked the dealer how much he would discount the seven month old Explorer and he gave me a bunch of Bull E36 M3 about how they’re both brand new and how the X-Plan price is fixed.
I told him that I was buying the vehicle today (cash – no trade in) and of course I’d drive thirty miles to get an identical vehicle that was 5.5 months newer at the same price. I couldn’t convince him that I wasn’t bluffing so I had to get up, walk out, and drive thirty miles to get my vehicle.
He actually called me a few days later to see if we could pick the discussion back up. I asked him how he could possibly think I wouldn’t drive thirty miles to get a vehicle that had been baking in the Southern California sun for 5.5 fewer months…not a bright dude.

In this situation, I would say yes you made the right call.
However, I wouldn't be concerned with getting a left over from last year at all. They have the same warranties and if there are issues from sitting, they will pop up long before 36/36k miles
I bought my Buick after it sat on the lot for an entire year. It has run fine for 59000 miles aside from a deer mangling the front end.

Yeah saw one today and just stared....
I think it would be a great new car, just that I am not buying for about two years.
Wait...this thread means there should be a new 2016 manual sitting somewhere still!!!

There's one in California - white, no sunroof. About $39,000 before taxes. 6-speed.

Might not be as white after sitting until 2018. I will have to see what is around then.
Dear Chevrolet- give this thing an official towing capacity that matches the Holden its' based on and maybe we'll talk.
Can I just point out that the name of the "SS" is awful. Yes, history, legacy, blah, blah, blah, but no one knows what it is. You say an "SS" and most people default to the Camaro, and good luck finding them through a search engine. I feel like they wold have sold better if they were called the Impala SS... just my $0.02...

Is the 39k before or after 20%?
New England hasn't gotten the memo. All of them here are $40k+, and most of the used ones are up near there too.
Oddly enough, I asked the same question about the same model of car back in December! Here's the thread: https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/off-topic-discussion/new-2014-model-car-at-a-dealership-should-i-be-afraid/108976/page1/

It wasn't always that way.
Also, I didn't realize that Chevy still made a Impala SS for 2016. Hard for me to believe that is a big enough segment for Chevy to have 2 players.

They don't make an SS version of the current Impala.
The reason the SS exists here is just to fulfill Union contracts for production in Australia where it's made, until the parts run out sometime next year and they quit making cars down under all together. They dont' market it because they don't really want to sell them. It's very expensive to manufacture cars in Australia. Add to that the cost of importing them and rebranding and it wouldn't surprise me if GM was close to losing money on the SS when sold here. I'm certain it's much more profitable to put you into a new Silverado or Camaro.
Also, I want one.
My buddy ordered one a few months ago, thanks to some internal favors at GM. Black, manual, no sunroof. Due to the internal favors that allowed him to order the car, he didn't have to put money down. Then this sale was announced. He found two black manual no sunroof cars in the DFW area, cancelled his order, and may be on a plane as I type this.

The car isn't really for the type who don't know what it is. That's like saying a GTO is awful. The SS moniker was used on Impala's first... and this is basically an Impala of the current gen. I don't really care for it, but a GTO isn't a GTO, it's a Lemans.
