I'll agree, they have said that the intercoolers and such are sitting in the side pod if memory is correct so if its for anything, possibly a BOV vent.
Otherwise it will relieve pressure from the wheel well to reduce drag. Which is also why there is a opening at the bottom.

I thought the wastegates vented through the taillights?
Some other use would make a lot more sense though, for all the reasons mentioned. If it's just a "body vent" then I think a P1-style taillight using a circular arrangement of LEDs behind a grate would look better and work better.

I know, but I figured the silly metal strakes before the taillights were meant to dissipate that heat...combined with some good heat shielding under the lights, that might help them survive. Riceboys run lighted exhaust tips all the time, after all.

I'll be the voice of dissention. I LIKE THE TAIL LIGHTS!! They look like some kind of leftover TRON bit when they light up. I don't give a damn if they bought them from Ferrari and they still have little horses stamped on them, they still look great to me.
