I always liked Banacek, although not really a show about a PI, I think he was an insurance investigator.

Columbo was not a PI since he was a cop, but the show was similar in some ways to the PI shows that followed and just seemed like it should be mentioned in this thread.

He's even creepier now.
Peter Gunn (the show, not him per se) also had the greatest pair of legs on TV. To whom did they belong?
Lots of shows with people helping others or solving crimes .
B. J. and the Bear - on the air from 1979 - 1981 .
Hart to Hart - 1979 - 1984 .
Quincy - a medical examiner solves murders

And The Incredible Hulk
"The Fall Guy" was more or less a PI show too.
Has Kagney & Lacey been mentioned yet? They were actual cops weren't they?
I am so so tired of all the CSI, NCIS, Law and Order, the show with the team of elite investigators, the other show just like it, and the one with the band of misfit geniuses. I wish they would all go away.
I really liked "Leverage", but that was more like "The A Team" then a PI show. I really miss The A Team. Sigh.

Dude how could you forget?
The Hoff's night time PI agency show.
I watched Magnum PI and the A-Team. My mom watched Moonlighting and Remmington Steele. It was a good time to only have three channels.

There was a pair of truckers that always had time to stop and help the locals too...Claude Akin? Off to wikipedia!
"Movin on". What kind of brain can come up with Claude Akins name 21 goddam years after he died, but can barely remember his own kids names....

I still want Heather Thomas!
This was from the Fall Guy, right?
Two tangentially-related observations:
Ever notice how nearly every show of that era had an episode in which the protagonist went to jail undercover? Magnum PI, Fall Guy, Knight Rider, Dukes of Hazzard, and Hawaii Five-O all did this, and I think Simon & Simon and A-Team did it too.
When it comes to 70s car p0rn, CHiPs and Hawaii Five-O are the best. There was an episode of Hawaii Five-O in which the killer drove a green Mazda REPU, for crying out loud.

We called it "Murder She Hopes." I thought they should have ended the series showing she was a serial killer and set all those people up.

Tim's dad called it "the old bat"--would call to my MIL, "Ursula, the old bat is on in 10 minutes!" I miss that guy.
Last PI-ish show I watched and enjoyed was "Monk."

Re: Murder She Wrote,
SWMBO and I constantly say why didn't the police ever look at HER. She was always close to the murder in some way..... But the PoPo never made the connection...

The first Moonlighting episode had the bad guy driving a white TR4. I had one at the time and thought that was cool.
