My beverage selection is determined by the hang over the beverage generates.
Friday I had 3 IPA something or others. They were 4 percent. I felt fine. No buzzed feeling or anything. Saturday I had two IPA things, but the were 9 percent. I felt awful. Dizzy and gross. Who knows?
I love a Belgian trippel. I just wish they had less alcohol so I could drink more of them!
Lately I have been adding vodka and ginger ale to the cranberry juice to make it tolerable. I don't like cranberry juice but it helps my kidneys not hurt in the morning.

Note to self: show up unannounced to Java's house because he is your kind of people.
Currently enjoying Buck on the rocks because I'm out of beer. Its... ok. I honestly only bought it because it segues really nicely into my favorite joke.
I find Leinenkugel's and Curious Traveler shandys pretty refreshing. Smithwicks, too.
Drink what you like.
Drink whatever it is that you enjoy. (Assuming you're not on some diet that forbids it.)
I only judge people's drinking choice if they use it to turn up their nose or disparage someone else's drinking choice, acting dismissive or superior, drinking because of hype rather than actual taste, or being just blatantly closed minded.
Things I have judged people for: waiting in line for hours to pay exorbitant prices for a limited release craft beer that's pretty good but not really great; having to have a specific beer in a particular style and refusing to try other versions that are just as good or better; walking into a craft brewery taproom and not even wanting to try the house-made options in favor of a macro beer.
For myself: I like all kinds of things. I've been on a gin and tonic with lime kick lately, or eggnog with budget scotch. Obviously beers. Tripel Karmeliet, Boulevard Tank 7, and La Fin Du Monde are probably the most frequently purchased. Plus rotating of whatever I'm seasonally in the mood for (frequently a Sierra Nevada seasonal: Summerfest pils, Celebration, etc.).
Whenever I'm out with people and someone gives me grief about "turning in my man card" for whatever I order, I usually respond by telling them that I don't drink to impress men.
I enjoy hard liquor AND fruity drinks, bring 'em on.
Some IPAs taste like grapefruit to me, but I do like:
New Glarus Moon Man
Fat Point Ryeight Angle (note: rye IPA... might need to try some others)
Magic Hat #9 "Not Quite Pale Ale"
And my sister introduced me to Kahlua & Coke... pretty sweet, but good.

Have you by any chance had any of the 17th anniversary beers from Unibroue? If you like SBD's, it's life-changing in my humble opinion. It's ruined a lot of true trappist beers for me.
In reply to slowride:
Shhhhh! You cant talk about New Glarus brewery less you want revenuers to descend from Wisconsin. Or are you in the one non-wisco distribution area chicagoland?
As for myself, i like to grab a 12 pack of bottles of seasonal beers. Or the occasional whiskey/bourbon on the rocks. Woodford Reserve is on the shelf at the moment.
At the moment I have:
by lagerhead
and Lagerheads White Water Witte which I can not find a picture of.
Meh, beer. My favorite drink is a Dark and Stormy. Good dark rum and real ginger beer. Very tasty in an intense way.

I have not, and I am quite a fan of Unibrou.
Interesting tidbit: Trader Joe's "Grand Reserve" beer is brewed by Unibrou.
The only complaint I have right now is the whole trend of hopping some beer until all it really has is a hop taste. It reminds me of eating the most spicy food you can to show you can handle the hot stuff, even if it completely masks the other flavors in the food.
Now, moving out of beer and into liquor, these guys have some interesting offerings. I've only tried Krupnikas, which is good for sipping straight and also decent when mixed with ginger ale, but I'm going to be looking for some of their other stuff the next time I'm out.

I use the same spicy food analogy. People have gotten kind of crazy.
SHORT VERSION: Actually found That Guy while giving an educational demonstration, who was so stupidly a hop head that he would happily drink the just strait hop-water that I had prepared.
LONG VERSION:
This past year I did a little educational demo at a beer week event. I wanted to show people the actual effects of what happens based on how hops are used, and to try to dispel the myth that IBUs (bittering units) accurately reflect how "hoppy" a beer is. That the best part of an IPA -that big aroma that jumps out of the glass- is completely separate from how bitter the beer is. So I infused the same mass of the same hops (some Citra, which is common for IPAs) in water three different ways:
1 - Boiled for 1 hour. This is the standard bittering addition. This just tasted BITTER. Like Aspirin. It was very unpleasant. I warned people that they WILL NOT LIKE THIS, so here is a spit/dump bucket that I ENCOURAGE YOU TO USE, and they were still shocked at how unpleasant this was.
2 - Steeped for 30 minutes like tea, in water that had been brought to boil and then had the heat turned off. This is the standard whirlpool or "aroma" addition. It had some aroma and flavor, and was noticeably bitter although nowhere near as much as the first sample.
3 - Infused in room temperature water for several days, then strained out. This is dry-hopping. It produced a very noticeable hop aroma and a light hop flavor. Absolutely no bitterness. This is the only one that was almost enjoyable.
There was ONE GUY who was so stupidly a hop head that he gave the outward appearance of enjoying all of the samples, even the one that was just pure aspirin-like bitterness. He was wearing a Heady Topper t-shirt. This demo was to show off how hops are not good by themselves, and we still managed to find THAT GUY.
My freezer has about half a bottle of absolut, a pretty much empty bottle of jack and a small bottle of jim beam apple. Although i occasionally purchase a 6 pack of mikes for light drinking.
