(Summit County) - A semi driver led Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers on a pursuit that lasted an hour and a half and covered nearly 100 miles. It began around 9pm on the Ohio Turnpike after a woman told troopers her husband had assaulted her.
"It started at the 77 milepost and continued on at average speeds of 60-62 mph clear up until exit 173, which is Interstate 77," said State Patrol Sgt. Darren Thomas.
The driver then blew through the toll booth and headed south on I-77 for a couple of miles. Thomas says the truck came to an abrupt stop in a construction zone where the driver fled on foot. He was captured after a short search of a nearby wooded area. He's been charged with felony fleeing. More charges are possible.
Troopers made several attempts to use road spikes to stop the truck.
"The final attempt was a success, but due to the fact that it was a commercial vehicle the spikes were found to be ineffective," Thomas said.
The chase covered a total distance of 98 miles according to Thomas.
The female passenger was treated for face injuries, but two children in the truck were not injured. Thomas says the couple was on the phone with dispatchers during the entire pursuit.
Thomas said:
"The final attempt was a success, but due to the fact that it was a commercial vehicle the spikes were found to be ineffective,"
I think Thomas needs to look up the word "success" in the dictionary.
Good movie. Thought Sally Field, Burt Reynolds, Jerry Reed, and Jackie Gleason did a fantastic job. And 77 Trans-Ams never looked better.
Snowman would never lay a hand on Frog.

One of the best movie quotes ever:
"Boy, when we get home I'm gonna smack your momma in the mouth."
Check out the original script

It's amusing to me to see the differences between the original script and the final product. Some things they should've kept in the movie (the ending, for instance), but I understand why they wouldn't.

"He sure had alot of friends daddy. If they would've cremated the some bitch, I could've been kicking that Mr. Bandit's ass around the moon by now."

92dxman, I believe you're looking for 'sumbitch,' being the shortened, Southern vernacular for 'son of a bitch.'
I don't usually play grammar/spelling nazi, but some things, like swear words, are just too important.
Gimme a...Diablo sandwich and a Dr. Pepper. And make it fast, I'm in a ~bobdarned~ hurry!

Jackie Gleason is absolutely a hero of mine after his performance in that movie alone.
