Its hard to argue against that.
Both Fiat and Toyota had rally versions of their cars. The Fiat was built by Abarth with a twin cam 2 liter, and threatened the Stratos in overall stage times. It was so close that Fiat killed the project.
I raced MR2s for years, and they are extremely tough cars, with typical Toyota over build. I never had issues with say hubs, suspension mounts, etc., that many other cars tend to have.
I also raced X1/9s for years, and they have one of the strongest unibodies for their size, stiffer than the MR2 really, even with the removable top.
The Fiat is by far the sweeter driving car, but ultimately the MR2 is faster.
One of the board members has a pretty sweet green RX-7 in rally trim...
I am afraid that this thread is turning into an excuse to post rally car pron... kinda like the box flare thread...
obligatory hotlink...
MkI ('70-'74) Ford Capri?
RA64 ('82-'85) Celica?
Both front engine rear drive, but different and cool!
Let me re-iterate... Im not used to making such self-centered threads. I am trying to find a car that will be interesting rather then a class winner. I want to make it a rally/hillclimb car to keep it streetable, but it will be all-out. I'd rather it be something odd to keep it interesting and cheaper, hence the MGB, but Ive decided to move away from it for personal reasons. Think odd, cheaper (i will do it right, but I dont wanna pay porche prices for a 911's wear items) and awesome. Not so fast I will kill myself or the car. This thread has been influenced by My Caswell.
I was looking HARD for a Capri for a while. Fox bodies are not out. Hence the Fairlane. Done up like the Falcons at Monte Carlo I think would hit the spot.
AWD's are either too expencive or too rare to be of interest to me. A 323 would be fun. If in the end I ended up with a Impreza thats sort of missing the point. I had a 2nd gen DSM, wasnt impressed but i know 1 gen is a different car.
That 240Z is very attractive, coming from a MGB guy...
RX-7 are high in the running. Karmann Ghia ive thought about. X1/9s are amazing... and are close to the top.
Thanks for the ideas, Gentlemen. They are all being put into thought, and the pictures help greatly keep em coming!

I am not super knowledgeable about rally, but is it advisable to drive a car to/from a stage event? The likelihood of rolling a car seems exponentially higher than other forms of motorsports.
Some damned cool stuff. I havent checked this thread in too long, so many of the cl ads are gone.
The BMW is interesting.
And as for vintage euro-ford, id hop on it, if i could find one with the metal/rust rate at atleast 50/50
