With all the panic buying, I bet there are a few gun manufacturers looking for people to run the new machines they're buying. Rock River and a couple others are in Illinois even.
Craft brewing is steadily expanding. There is never ending maintenance to be done at a brewery, especially for someone who can fabricate small parts.
That said, breweries either don't have a lot of money or don't have much turnover. Many that will need a good maintenance guy will also be operating 24hrs, so your schedule could suck too.

Yeah, I removed my resume. It looked terrible. I might just take a picture of a paper copy and post that.
mtn, thanks for the links. I have a physical ability test for a local Sheriff's department this wednesday. If that doesn't pan out I'll move on to the next thing.

QFT. My best friend is gunsmith/CNC operator who works for a small gun parts manufacturer and builds custom high-end hunting rifles on the side. He's as panicked as all the other gun nuts over the impending possibility of regulation, but he says it's been GREAT for his bottom line.
As you have machinest experience, you could always look into Industrial Supply......some company has to be supplying your former employers machinery with endmills, inserts, toolbars, etc. My employer snatched a few guys that specialized in that last year from a windmill plant.
I received a letter earlier this week from the Sheriff's Department stating I had passed the written exam. I'm on the eligibility list. I assumed I would be given a date for an interview and polygraph.
Kind of a
Wahh-Wahhhhhhhhhh
Finally!
I have an interview tomorrow with a commercial truck company that's looking for a grease monkey. Not my first choice of professions, but it's a job!
I took the Lincoln out to my son's school, picked him up and drove out to the shop just to be 100% sure I knew where it was. I like to do a dry run before the real thing!
I drove the Lincoln to another interview this morning and one of the guys interviewing me asked if he could check it out. He seemed to dig it.
Where is the interview? BTW, the Walmart in Pekin sucks. It does not have supplies to make a beer bong.
It was at a small company in Peoria looking for a machinist/mechanical maintenance person to keep things running smoothly in their shop. Manual lathes and mills. Good stuff!
The trucking company gave me teh lowballz.
Still mooching. (not by choice)
A question for those more adept at the job hunt than myself; once a resume/application has been dropped off, how long do you usually wait before giving them a follow-up phone call?
You'll need to log in to post.
