ADMIN APPROVAL TO SEND PRIVATE POSTS

HOW DOES ONE OBTAIN 'ADMIN APPROVAL' TO SEND POSTS TO SPECIFIC USERS?

One must first make a certain number of posts, I can't recall if it is 25 or 50. It is always more plesant to read a post that is not in all caps.

You can always make a thread and ask the person you are trying to PM to contact you. PMs sent to you will come to your e-mail. Unfortunately this is not a setting that a mod can change.

Why is this a thing? I mean, I get it. But also that is what annoys me about so so many forums. I don't want to waste my time on a forum posting just so I can contact someone about something they are selling. It doesn't lead to more/better content, just 25 E36 M3 posts

How so? I can't imagine there is a whole lot of spam sent through PMs but maybe I am wrong

I think those initial posts also help to prove what type of member you will be. If all you do is spam, than your account can be blocked without hesitation. If all you do is post-whore to try to get to the classifieds, then that serves as a red flag to the community that you may not be a trustworthy buyer/seller. That's also why off-topic and classified areas may be invisible until you reach 25/50/whatever posts, or why posting in off-topic doesn't increase your post count.

I'm pretty sure that the majority of my posts have been in off-topic …..

I have 6011 posts prior to this one...and 6012 after. Maybe they don't count until after your 25 posts or whatever?
