I ordered a rebuilt steering rack from what seemed like a reputable seller on eBay, what I received was unusable. The inner tie rods were either incorrect for the application or reused and had berked up threads, which ruined one of my brand new MOOG outer tie rods. Of course, I didn’t realize this until the rack was already on my car. Yeah maybe I should have installed the outer tie rods on first, but that still leaves me with one berked up tie rod.
The company asked if I wanted another part or a refund, due to the lack of confidence I had in their quality control, I decided to go with a refund also asking that they reimburse me for the cost of the damaged outer tie rod. They refunded the whole cost of the rack, but I’m still out a tie rod.
Am I out of line or asking too much for insisting they reimburse me for the outer tie rod? It was brand new out of the box. Or should I eat it and move on?
Eat it, move on. Life is too short to fume about such things.

Yeah, you're sorta SOL on the tire rod.

Did they ask for the rack back?

Yes, shipped it back to them with a prepaid shipping label.

which side, can you run a thread chaser through it? If Ebay and refund actually happened, you're ahead of the curve. Ain't worth kicking the dog over, imo.
Some days, you're the bug.
if you had to force it on there enough to damage the threads, you should have stopped a long time ago... Eat it, IMO.

You got a refund, without a lot of bull E36 M3? Run with it, and forget about the berked up tie rod end.

For real. See the thread about getting the struts through an Amazon vendor.
Is the request out of line? Not really, but it's probably got a small chance of being honored.
You're not out of line but you're not likely to get the money. Sorry about your luck. Leave appropriate feedback.

Fair enough. Thanks guys, you're right, it's not worth the aggravation, just going to leave appropriate feedback and let it go.

from what I've heard about e-bay and all the BS that goes along with it .. I'd say you got off pretty lucky

In an unexpected turn of events, I got a paypal notice that the company sent me another ~$28 to cover the cost of the tie rod. I did not contact them further or press the issue, I'm bummed about receiving a defective product and wasting my Saturday but I understand things happen and I'm happy they made it right.
Given how well they handled the situation, I'd be tempted to give them a second chance...

I agree with dj
Ditto. I already ordered the IS300 rack from another company but I may be needing a rack for my Saturn so I am thinking about giving them another chance.
