The daily mail (I know, not a stellar source of info) claims this guy builds supercar replicas out of scrap. The pictures are a little too amazing to be true.....if it is legit, the guy has major skills

A Top Gear fan has completed the ultimate motor challenge - building a £5million supercar using scrap and spare parts. Amateur mechanic Jacek Mazur, 48, made his own replica McLaren F1 for just £20,000. The real thing would cost 250 times as much. Mr Mazur, from Zabrze, Poland, spent eight years building the replica car, which can hit speeds of up to 200mph.

200 mph in that frame?

I suddenly feel like a big wimp, because

Take anything the daily mail says with a grain of salt. I'm still puzzled by what bits are supposed to have been garbage/scrap. I'm not seeing much that fits that description.

To the mainstream press, steel tubing would seem to be scrap. Even if it's bought new for the express purpose of building something. If it's not a perfect new functioning machine then it's trash, scrap, junk, etc.

Those Eastern Bloc mechanic dudes have some FREAKISH skills. It's like the Cuban mechanics making their own brake pads and stuff.

Something looks a bit off about it I would say, especially his Countach replicas, but to the casual passer by I bet it's pretty darn convincing. That's some serious skill! I'm not sure i'd want to go 200mph in a replica like that, but i bet if he put a twin turbo LSx in there, you'd still be able to go fast enough!

Also I bet this one doesn't cost $10 a mile to drive. ;-)

The McLaren actually looks totally legit mechanically, apart from apparently having no trace of rollover protection.

that is probably true, and thus, is quite possibly the saddest thing I've read all day
