That's funny. While I was doing some crap in Manhattan a week or two ago, I popped up from the subway, saw the store, and thought "my sister used to have those". I even had a brief chat with the girl I was with about them (she didn't have them growing up).
My sister had a couple of them. It was her "thing" for a while. Girls like that kind of stuff. Well, some do. 
I guess there better than build a bears. We took my friend's kids to a build a bear store and all the bears on the signs have this blank look like they are forced to build teddy bears as slave labor

Yes, my kids have them and we've done the whole American Girl weekend in Chicago. The host hotel even had an American girl bed for the doll. Downtown Chicago for $99/night & free breakfast wasn't bad. Now when we went to the store that was another story.
