yup was going to build something a little bigger and badder but had been considering a basic system... when tigerdirect sent me an email I jumped at it lol... the case kind of sucks from a building perspective (not tooless and the HDDs mount isn't sideways for quick/easy single door adding/removal and the power supply only has 3 sata power connecters (but I can use a slitter on the IDE one thats left)
but the big point was... it was you can build your own cheap with reputable parts for stinkin cheap... and it's more computer then MOST people need (most people honestly could get by with something as simple as weak as a netbook)
and like I said it was my first computer build... 1 hr box to running via a bootable disc OS... and with how easy it is to install windows7 why not?
Yeah, i've built many rigs before... just never been able to get one going that cheap... i need to look into this.
Light duty gaming + media center sounds like a winner.
Even if you had to add on the other $90 that Tiger charges for Win7 as an add-on to a barebones, it's still a good deal. If you were able to unlock the 4th core on that tri-core, it would be a pretty screamin' deal.
You can support an American company by buying Crucial brand RAM. They're based right here in Boise, Idaho.
Check out their awards page, they've earned a lot of 'em.
No affiliation, just proud of a local company making great products. I've been using Crucial memory for a long time.
Here is a link to the barebone Donalson built.
thanks derick... looks like some of those rebates ran out lol... still not bad...
runs with the 4th core unlocked but a lot warmer... will keep it running 3... and playing with OCing it... but will in the end prob just leave it stock... but fun to play now that I can lol
