OK Ok, simmer down, I am not planning to autocross a Buick Encore. The wife wants to move up from her Soul+ to something a little more mature. She also wants an automatic, leather and lot's of convenience features. She doesn't really want or need a larger vehicle, likes sitting up high, and with a 40 mile daily commute, mileage is a consideration.

So we went to a CarMax type place, and she looked at the Sportage, Tiguan, Equinox, Escape, Tuscon and some others I am probably forgetting. The Encore was her clear favorite, and for less money you get a lot more features. They are offering a GREAT trade in, a GREAT deal on the Encore, and the financing is where we want to be.

Any major objections to a Chevy Sonic-based luxury CUV?

I came very close to buying one last year. If the terrain is hilly by you take a test drive over some. As comfortable as I was in ithe little engine seemed to work harder than I liked. I have a long commute with some good climbs and was concerned I'd wear it out quickly. If it came with a bit more torque I would likely have bought it.

They are assembled in South Korea. But that shouldn't be an issue these days.

The 1.4T responds well to tuning and I have heard good reviews of these from folks who want a little luxury car.

Funny you should ask, my mom bought one about a month ago and I drove it for the time today. My comment was that it felt like a nicer version of the Soul (we had a 2012). Great little buggy, good in gas and endless options. I think you can even get an ECU tune right from GM

They're comfortable, reliable, practical, and Trifecta Performance makes a sweet tune for them that is actually fairly noticeable. Other than the weird toggle-switch manual mode, what's not to like?

I was afraid that even with a tune the 50,000 miles/year I've been doing would wear the little motor out quickly. The 2.4 I got seems much more relaxed.

Thanks for the feedback. It seems to tick all of her boxes, and fit her driving style just fine. Good to know about the tune, I didn't even think of that. So I can do this to it eventually?

I've always thought they look like hamsters, especially in this brown color. That's all I have to add...

They've been really knocking out of the park with the names lately...

Just kidding.

I didn't know there was such a thing. I was thinking the larger Buick SUVlike thing that I see until someone said this one was built on the Spark platform. I don't recall ever seeing one, but I don't think I've seen an HIV or whatever that small version of a CRV is either. I think they are just invisible to me.

When/if you get one, disassemble the rear brakes and grease the slides. GM doesn't from the factory, and about 20K miles in the pads will get stuck in the slides and go metal-to-metal. Seen it happen before
