Well you were talking about the Doritos and Dew the other night
CLIF bars, cashews, skittles and water.
You know how hard it was to restock on tropical skittles in Afghanistan?
If you want to appeal to that audience then just pack energy bars and caffeine in camo and call it inspired by Spec Ops.
Military MREs are high in calories and carbs for a reason, not necessarily something a gamer would want. Nothing pack pounds on faster than MREs and not doing anything.
Have you heard of Soylent? No, not the movie one, the real one. Designed for long session coding originally. http://www.soylent.me/#/

Holy crap!
Who in the world would make a real food product called that?
They actually have to say on their home page that the stuff is not made of people!
LOL. A fellow Georgia Tech grad started the company, but not anyone I know. I think the name is genius. You'll never forget it and I bet most of his target market either hasn't heard of the movie or thinks it's freaking hilarious.

I have, and I have to say it was part of the idea as well.

I was thinking the same- modelling food after people who spend most of their lives in the field moving around constantly, sometimes running and having that the food for people who are sitting still and using their digits does not seem like a good fit.
Something that tastes good and is filling, but delivers JUST enough energy for a stationary person should work.
How to make rice cakes taste good and be filling.
One thing that almost looks like it might fit the bill would be Zapplesauce - applesauce in a squeeze packet with maltodextrin and caffeine.
But, as others have noted, this doesn't have the same requirements as military meals. Here, you want to give plenty of bulk without the calories, and preferably with some good levels of vitamins. The thing that seems to fit the bill from a nutritional standpoint is a soup with a large vegetable content. You could package it in something like a squeeze packet or a can that opens into a cup - or maybe somehow have a way to get it through an oversized straw so you can eat it hands-free.

Wonder if you could make a puree of a veggie soup- similar in texture to tomato, but with more stuff in it. That way it could be warmed easily, and also easily consumed with less distraction- sippie cup for the win.
That's what I was thinking, something like gazpacho puree. But you could do all sorts of flavors here - broccoli cheese, chili, whatever you might want.
When you're targeting a teenage market, they're going to be more willing to try new flavors than younger kids, so no need to try and make a dessert out of this. The main thing is to make it convenient.
