A recent marathon reminded me that this series is amazing.
Born into it here. I grew up at the tail end of the original series in England, and moved to the states at age 6, then just when I got old enough to be nostalgic, sci-fi and the Beeb brought out Christopher Eccleston. Re-hooked ever since...
I'm a whovian, but not much of one.
My wife and I watched all of the new series up until about 3/4 through the latest doctors first season. I lost interest
We lately started rewatching from the beginning (Eccleston) with my oldest daughter. Great show through the Matt Smith era.
Im way behind. I started with Tom...the dude with the scarf, many years ago. Tha reboot has been good, although I'm still not through watching the Smith years. Binge watching can get time consuming. I'm not entirely sure about the new guy yet, but I've only watched a few.
Day of the Doctor was really fun a few years ago and I like any episode with River Song. She's cool.
Grew up watching Tom Baker, he'still my favorite. I also liked Eccleston a lot. Too bad he didnt hang around longer. My son is a huge Matt Smith fan.
It's nice to live in a time when admitting to being a whovian doesn't automatically make you a target for ridicule.
I grew up watching Tom Baker on PBS. When they came out with the new series I was totally hooked. The new series is a bit funnier, and it shed the old pattern of british drama pacing. As much as I liked the old classic series, it was such poor production quality and lacked the quick pace needed for entertainment value. As a pre-teen, it was hard to watch a whole episode without a break for a snack.
I have now watched up through a the first couple seasons with Capaldi. Eccleston did better than I expected but lacked laughs. Tennant was great, but a bit overacted. Matt Smith was a dopey guy. I liked his episodes, but he played it (and/or it was written) as though the Doctor had suddenly lost all of his universal humanity and knowledge of how the world works. Not commensurate with how an 800-year-old soul would behave. He got stumped with the most basic emotional premises. Capaldi is just OK.
The whole show is so dramatic and shakespearean. I love it. Its like live theater on TV.
You guys might have seen my recent thread about building tapped-horn subs for my theater. What I didn't mention is that I was going to make the enclosure look like the Tardis. Because the bass would sound bigger than the enclosure suggests, I could say that its because its bigger on the inside.
SPEAKING OF DOCTOR WHO AND THEATER... Someone needs to make it into a musical for the stage. You could have three acts with a regeneration between each one. Three actors for three different doctors in one show.
But let's think about the real reason I watch it:
We too are a whovian household. Myself, my wife and my 9 and 8 year old sons watch the series.
I think we have two of each sonic from the rebooted series around the house.
I used to watch the older show when I was younger too. It was very good as well, but lacked the special effects we have today obviously.
I'm not very caught up with the Peter capaldi episodes, but I'm still a bit of a fan. Mostly because of Amy Pond.
Although I find it hilarious the little one is deathly afraid of cybermen. No rhyme or reason that I can tell, she just freaks out in a not fun way when the cybermen show up.
I just watched the Christmas special (S10E00) Doctor Mysterio last night. Very good. Bummed we have to wait until April for the next season.
I have to say I'm not looking forward to his new partner. She doesn't seem as adorable (read:smokin hot)as Amy and Clara. I'm sure she'll grow on me though.

Fear not. That guy is a place holder. Just like lezzie the lizard was.
Watched the Christmas special last night and liked it. Warming up to Capaldi as the doctor... but not liking the look of the new companion.
In reply to 32vsnake:The companion in the Christmas Special is not the new companion in the upcoming series. He was just a one-off for the Christmas Special. 2017 Companion

Thanks,I was aware of that... actually think I'd prefer Nordole to the new girl
"Blink" was utterly, untouchably brilliant. Unfortunately I don't think they'll be able to top that one episode.

Agreed. I'm more of a Matt Smith fan, but that episode was super creepy
