I was working at Gate 2, we left soon after the race had started. Nice how the track is in a bowl, and the sound has nowhere to go. I spent my morning telling people that hard sided coolers were not allowed in the gate, home printed tickets to the right gate, have your coolers and bags open for inspection, etc.
I have to say, those were some of the happiest drunks that I've ever met, and I've met lots of drunks in my life.

I went to a race at Martinsville in 1996. That track is great, and the racing is just what circle track racing should be. I grew up near Eldora Speedway, and have fond memories of exciting short track racing. I like NASCAR because it is very similar to grassroots circle track racing, just on a much more expensive scale.
The difference between Indy 500 and NASCAR is that the Indy fans are there for the party (and they're often bad drunks), and the NASCAR fans are polite drunks.
