Almost 6,300 listings on ebay. Is this really that popular? How come I can't get on board with this trend?

Besides fender vents; what other trends do I/you not get into?

Cue a million responses for 'hellaflush'...

Aside from that, which I think is retarded, the one I can't understand is the drifters who spend thousands on their car, and then drive around after the fact with the front bumper/air dam smashed into bits and held on with zip ties, and think they're hot E36 M3 for doing so. Sorry, it doesn't make you look cool, it makes you look like you crashed. That is not a good thing. I mean everyone who's ever been on a track has had an 'off' at some point but most of us endeavor not to...

Sheesh!

Edit: Can't get into the whole computers will be in everyone's house thing. Pfffftt.

I saw a Malibu with those things the other day (stalled outside a gas station, surrounded by guys on cell phones). I was overcome with a wave of "Holy carp; for that level of effort and expense, that's what you decided to do!?"

I like to set my iPod on my shelf full of vinyl, just for the juxtaposition. Kinda blows my mind.

Whats really fun is when the door shocks go bad on REAL Lambo door.

Bad door shocks = instant guillotine

Perfectly restored, numbers-matching, low-mileage whatever.

I can respect the work put into it, but I don't like it. Cars are meant to be driven.

I'm with you on that. I mean, I can see if it's one's prize possession, and chock full of great memories to boot. Eventually, however, I'd have to go drive it or something.

On a more slightly serious note, I'm not really all that happy with the instant editing ability of digital cameras. Because, it's those "shot isn't quite right" or just randomly shot pics of relatives/things/stuff, that at the time were considered mistakes, that often make for the best memories.

And when was the last time you accidentlly ran across a pic of someone stuck in an address book (those are going away, too) or box, and sat for a minute and smiled. Hard to do that with an unprinted SD card.

I KNOW this is archaic thinking, but the historian part of me does wonder about this..

Jay - most of the drifters you see running around with zip-tied bumpers don't do it 'cause it looks cool, they do it because they're poor and they know they're just gonna rip the bumper off again anyway. If you look at professional-level drifting, you don't see zipties until after someone smacks a wall. Before the next event, they fix it right.

If you want to talk about stupid drifter crap, try the "lazy eye" mods for pop-up headlights. That came about from guys who screwed up their front ends and the lights wouldn't work properly, then other people saw it and thought it looked cool, then starting making their lights do that intentionally.

How about JDM conversions? Spending hella money to make your car look like a STOCK car from a different region? Why is this cool?

I'd spend money for a P(acific)DM conversion: Driver seat is halfway between USDM and JDM...

Think about it.

Am I missing some horrible new trend by that name? Or are you just talking about the old drag cars with straight front axles and sitting very high for weight transfer?

is that why they sit like that? I have always wondered.

Most of the ricer trends make me shake my head. Chrome around every panel, altezza lights, z3 fender vents, and we cannot forget the HUGE picnic table rear wing

I'm just surprised any of the styling and car show items of the 90's import scene haven't been mentioned lol vader body kit, 17's, pastel colors.....

As for Hellaflush, I really don't understand this. They get riciculous low offset wheels and spacers so they go through wheel bearings every 3.2 miles and the car could be crap, they do what I said and they automatically have a show car, now some people do it right for some cars, but most, do it wrong. They think STUPID low, crazy useless camber is cool....oh wait I do like it if it's done right, I think it's sick looking but it is very stupid lol This is what really started the flatbrim brotatos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIo9tn-Gbc0

It's actually funny that the zip tie got mentioned, I really don't care, but it does look trashy after awhile and some people do the stitching just for looks haha but my friends that drift, I admit they did the same but he also pop riveted a zebra painted panel for the quater panel repair LOL I guess it is sort of a JDMDriftYO fad but I dunno

The said "juicy whip" well at least what he calls it, you can't see all the stickers on the rear window and he's more into the curb feelers on the bumper than stitiching lol

Now the Hellaflush thing kind of applies to my other buddies car, he had all the suspension upgraded and had the same size wheels all around, did that before helleflush seemed to take over. I miss it

Now, they aren't into it to blend in, fit in, or in the "scene" they just love drifting and 240's. Now granted, they may be in some of the fad's but they aren't like some of these guys out there, they have fun with their cars. They aren't full brotato JDMDriftYo

the Z3 fender vents I can sorta kinda understand if they are kinda functional, but the rest is pretty much useless.

old gassers sat the way they did in order to transfer as much weight as possible to the rear end when they launched in order to somewhat curb wheelspin. the big reason they don't do that now is suspension systems have evolved enough to get good traction without tons of weight transfer, tire technology has come far enough that great traction can be achieved without needing lots of weight transfer, and thus the traction benefits are far outweighed by the aerodynamic problems that sort of a setup causes.

I'm on a few websites that have sort of turned into drift forums over the last couple of years. I have been temp banned from one of these sites a few times for voicing my opinions in a unique way. These are the offending posts.

It's amazing how pissed off people can get from a picture
