I think the posters are just arguing on autopilot.

Sorry. I left my ArgueBot running over the weekend.

Good thing you came back; I just read over the FCC ruling, and put together some really strong points. Your ArgueBot was about to get shot down.

I was surprised to learn of the site containing chicks farting on cakes. I wouldn't be surprised about this. P.S. Don't go.
What happened in your childhood to make girls farting on cakes be your thing? And how did you realize others are into it?

Mercifully, this was a coworker and I trying our best to outwit the other. "Dream up something so weird that there's no way it already exists on the net."

I think we both lost.

Uh... like the ZZTop song says 'I've done everything just short of deranged' and I ain't never heard of that one. And no I'm not going to look for it.

On topic: I think some of the regulations coming will be based on how the drone (and I hate that term! the damn things are quadcopters. No one would buy them until they were called drones. Now every jerk with one thinks he's piloting a Predator over Afghanistan) is being used. If this guy shot the thing down because it was hovering over his sunbathing teenage daughter, the police will probably give him a break. If it was being used to inspect powerlines for damage, nope.

Property rights will also enter into it; when you buy a piece of land you own everything below the surface, all the way to the center of the earth. You also own the airspace above it, but there's an implied allowance for commercial flight access. Otherwise every time a plane took off, every landowner in the flight path would have to give their permission for the plane to fly through their airspace. But I kinda don't think that protection will extend to voyeurism etc.

Here's an interesting drone "issue" for you. I'm assuming the government is going to start shooting down drones if this sort of thing becomes common: http://www.foxnews.com/us/2015/08/04/drone-drops-drugs-in-ohio-prison-yard-spurring-inmate-fight/?intcmp=hplnws

EDIT: Cliffs - drone drops dope in prison yard, dopes in prison yard fight other dopes over the dope.

My local TV news station had an attorney on an was asked about the "drone" thing.

She said that at present there are practically no regulations regarding the "helicopter" type drones.

Are these rc copters actually self flying, or are they just a stupid name for RC stuff.

Yea that 3-Rotor "Drone" was at 6,900ft. I wonder if it was a quadcopter or something else. That's pretty damn high.

Agree. Also this from that article:

"This incident reflects the growing danger and other potential illicit uses for which people can use personal drones," DiCiccio and Nowakowski said in a statement. "It is a public safety concern that our police department currently has little to no authority to control."

So, there you have it. Even a fairly cautious reading of this quote yields up the fact that authorities are encouraging people to shoot these things down wherever you see them. It's our civic duty!

Ocean City NJ, where I grew up, is getting ready to ban all drones.

For me, the term drone is applicable because they are semi-autonomous. All multi-rotor craft have internal gyroscope and self-correct for yaw, pitch, and roll. I have been having a lot of fun flying a little nano-quadcopter, and would like to graduate to an FPV racer style. Unfortunately, I would imagine those will be the hardest hit by legislation sledgehammers as they try to get laws made before knowing what they are talking about.
