That's what I mean. Stuff fails. As a pilot, you have time to do something. If the same thing happened at 60 MPH and you were 10 inches from the car in front of you, which has had the SAME THING happen... I'd rather the drivers have to at least pretend to pay attention.
I don't know if I agree. While I'm no big computer lover by any means, I have more faith in computers than people.
Will things go wrong once in awhile and people die? Sure. But a lot of people die now as well.
Sh1t happens.

I hate to sound like I'm flaming, but are we suggesting a mix of autonomous and meat operated on the same roads? I see bad things coming from that.

During our test drive, there was a "meat-operated" vehicle on track that slowed down, sped up, changed lanes in front of us... the point of which was to demonstrate how our vehicle's sensors responded by either slowing the car down or signalling the driver with vibrating goose, and red flashing lights. All you have to do is grab the wheel and make some kind of input for the car to give you back control... but if you don't continue to make any corrections while it's in "super-cruise" it takes over again.
I have some vid, but I can't post it until next week.

Here's some in-car vid of my test drive. Not exactly riveting stuff, but you get the idea.

Cool, maybe if people think it's inappropriate, it'll get more views
