A friend of mine has been making guitars on the side for years, and he finally quit his job to give a go at it full time. He also just put together a facebook page for his instruments. Like it if you'd like. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Dawson-Unique-Odd-Musical-Instruments/222170554469103?v=info#info_edit_sections

These things play and sound as good they look. If anyone wants some custom work done, just email him!

I'm really just trying to show everyone my friend's skills, but if it's too much like advertising, remove it or let me know so I can change the tone.

And can someone change the title? I noticed the typo about a half second too late. And I guess it should be "stringed". I need to take a nap.

That moose antlers bass is a freaking riot. Too bad I'm probably too poor to afford his stuff. That and I don't hardly have time to play music anymore.

His stuff is surprisingly affordable. He actually made a small dulcitar that had a deer antler that he found in the woods as the top horn of the body. It was pretty bad ass.

Those basses look like "snooty bass player" basses that should be played right under the chin.

But seriously, he makes some nice--and very interesting stuff. I wouldn't consider this a canoe. It's too interesting to be a canoe, IMHO.

I don't know jack about guitars, but I DO know craftsmanship when I see it. Major props to your friend. I think some BIG STARS need to see this stuff. Good luck to him.

Haha! He started playing bass in 7th grade, and it didn't take long before that bass was entirely too high! I guess that's what happens when you listen to too much jazz-fusion in your impressionable years. He's lowered it since, and mostly plays with a pick now. I thought I had some pics of me playing the first bass I posted, proving that they can be played at a normal height, but I can't find them.

Can you still make jello in that mold? The only thing better than a three string fiddle is a three string fiddle that also makes dessert.

I am also really liking the pineapple cake pan bass.

Here's another one he just finished a few months ago. IIRC, he used black ink mixed with some sort of epoxy to work into the grain to make it stand out. I think it turned out pretty bad ass.
