Hey, shameless plug have been posting about this on all the automotive forums I lurk on.
Basicly its a remake/spiritual sequel to "Detroit" and "Car Tycoon" and stuff like that.
However this is more detail-y (thats a word yeah?) and target at car nuts, so you'll spend a fair bit of time designing cars and engines in detail, plus organizing the production and sales of cars.
Just imagine, build 2 stroke bubble cars in 1950s Japan, run a large American auto maker into the ground with oversized emissions strangled barges, try and run a supercar company in soviet russia, or just run a mega empire making plastic beige hatchbacks, all will be available to you! :P
But yeah, bullE36 M3 blurbs aside, i imagine it'd be the kind of thing you guys might have fun with, its about a year off being finished (at least!) but if you guys want to come have a look at Www.automationgame.com and give us some ideas, comment on the stuff we have posted etc then please do :)
a fun canoe, but still.....
I used to have Car Tycoon. I got it at the dollar store....
Looks like fun. Will you be able to make mid-engined cars?
I played the living E36 M3 out of Car Tycoon! I love games like that. I'll be there. Could you port it to phones and sell it on the iMarket or Android market? Cash to be made there.

I'd love to have something like that on my phone. Beats working.

For sure, pretty much any configuration you can think of.
To all the people suggesting mobile versions, that is something we are considering, but will have to wait until the PC version is done!
In reply to Daffyflyer:
We have been working away on the game, and here is the a picture that shows the myriad of options available to you within the Engine Designer Demo. The demo only pertains to the Inline 4 engine configuration, the full game of course will cover a wide range of configurations. The game will also cover various forced induction, but this will not be covered in first release of the demo. We know how much people love their turbo 4 bangers and you will get them!
A relevant canoe, who knew they existed. Interesting game.
Looks pretty cool. I love all the parts renders, you guys have talent!
car tycoon? did I miss that while playing roller coaster tycoon?
In reply to internetautomart: Yeah, most people missed it, it was badly translated from German, and generally E36 M3

Does that make this then not a canoe? I'd say it looks like a potentially pretty awesome game that I might want. You say all sorts of configurations? like mid engined turbo something with front wheels powered by electric motors? how about rear engines? i'm loving that photo, btw. More options are always better.
Sounds pretty interesting, and could be something cool to play around with when I get home from work in the morning...
That being said, I actually build cars for a living, so if the abbreviations "UAW" or "FMLA" appear at any time during the game, I'm out.

Another thought I had, are there any considerations for rotary engines? There are quite a few car nuts who are oddly obsessed with rotaries. And if you do include them (at which point I will buy it immediately because i am a massive sucker for that kind of stuff), of course allow for 2-4 rotors at the very least.
In reply to Rufledt: The demo will only be the engine designer, and only for N/A Inline 4's (note the image only shows the parts that will be in the demo), the full version will include all piston engine configurations up to at least v12s, and forced aspiration.
Rotaries are on our mind, they'll either be in the full version or an expansion
Rear engine should be doable, if all goes well you should be able to pretty much replicate any car you can think of
Is there a playable demo out yet?
In reply to Xceler8x: Nope, hopefully in the next month or so..
Here is a video of all the valvetrain configurations you can choose from

Or that could be the new "Go directly to jail" part of the game...lol
So when can I build a honking big boinger V8?

Or more importantly a V8 that uses the four cylinder heads you have already designed (one mirrored) at about 5.0L with up to 40V, two turbos, E85... god I need to change my shorts.

We gots us some suspensions! Yee haw!
One thing I'm curious about is how the game determines the market viability of a car. I mean, you could put a super-reliable 3.5L V6 amidship in a fairly nicely decked out chassis, but if you price it at $80k, very few people are going to buy it. Price it at $30k, and I'm pretty sure they still wouldn't fly off the shelves just due to the general populace's apprehension about non-standard engine configurations.
Very awesome!! Can't wait for it to be done. One thing I noticed though...
No turbochargers or superchargers. What's the deal? LOL
