I like your two rules. Makes perfect sense to me.
Last summer I was visiting my parents in Ontario and I realized I was storing R-compounds, rims & assorted parts for several cars that I didn't even own anymore - dating back at least five or six ago. I managed to flog 90% of them with only a little mental anguish. The extra $600 that went in my pocket helped. A little bit.
Yeah, I sold off some rims, exhaust and a drop kit last winter to clear out some space... but it was just a drop in the clutter bucket.
THAT explains why I have a spare bumper for the MINI, several sets of wheels, floor mats, a turbo, a fuel pump etc for my ms3.... I think all the parts I am currently hoarding are for cars I still own.
As soon as you get rid of it, you'll stumble across a pristine E36 at less than challenge price... that only needs a heater core.
Giant Purple Snorklewacker wrote: Someday the heater core out of an E36 I no longer own will be useful for something. Right? RIGHT?
Yep, the day after you get rid of it
As soon as someone buys my C160 transaxle I'll finally find the affordable 4AGE blacktop I spent all those years searching for.
Exactly. As soon as I got rid of the Dakota drop spindles and shackles I've been hoarding for six years... I found an entire set of KYB drop shocks, still in the box, for $15 each.
I had a rear speaker panel for a 1983 911 in my barn for about a year. It was too big to ship and I couldn't find anyone local who needed it. I got tired of constantly moving it around so, eventually, I just took it to the dump.
A few months later, I found myself with a 1983 911 that had a badly warped rear speaker panel...
I think the worst examples that i have are... maybe the 12 sets of injectors i have.
Or the 4 complete spare F2T heads? You know... just in case i ever blow one. (I'm reasonably sure it's because i have 4 spares that i will never blow one.)

yea, but ya never know when ya might need 'em

yep. I bought a 65 Riviera parts car before I actually bought the good one.
I also have a 2nd gen f body flipped on it's roof in our back property because it amuses me.
Shoot..... I have stuff from the mid 90's I keep around to vehicles I don't or have ever owned. Slowly, I have been getting rid of "things" to get some additional space. Too bad, I have a 10x10 storage unit packed FULL, 3 hrs away.....
I have parts from at least 10 cars I no longer own and parts from things I do own that will never go back to their original home. There's a few more parts from cars I've never owned, but I might someday, or I thought I could use the part for some frankenproject. Then there's the boxes of coilover springs I didn't return you know, just in case. We don't talk about the duplicate/triplicate/quads of tools - some broken, some modded, some I just couldn't find when I needed - how did I manage to break a hammer anyway?
A few weeks ago SWMBO mis-heard the ad for "Car Warriors" on Speed as "Car Hoarders" and stated that there was finally a TV show for me. I informed her that if she started complaining about my projects then I would have free reign on her shoe "issue'.

I do to. That 283 engine, RX7 transmission and differential, etc.
